Did anyone else think that Brent Atchley’s style was fake as fuck when he first blew up? I think it was something in the weird wrist action that put me off.

Yep, me too. Also didn’t like all that fake after school modelling he did, pants hanging off his arse, unnecessary scrapey ollies, all that shit. Definitely a big influence on Magenta. But then he’d blaze around Burnside like it’s nothing, so he definitely has some crazy ability.
Tough to look past the limp wrist.

I don’t care, I could watch him all day. I remember at the time someone on slap posted an amazing spoof video with someone mimicking his mannerisms. Just tried to find it but no dice.

If he was over-exaggerating certain elements of his style, he did it extremely consistently. Personally I like his style, nothing wrong with a little bit of flair and like some people have said, he had the skill to back it up – unlike a lot of people who mimicked him.

That’s rad, I’d love to see him skate in person. I love watching him even if some of it is fake. If you see past the weird stuff the way he does his actual tricks is so sick. Even just that simple nose manny on that block in the video above. It’s simple but he landed it in such a cool way.
This recent one. Nearly loses his balance straight into a pretty big transfer. Very organic.

I used to really dislike Brent Atchley but I feel his footage has actually aged pretty well and on reflection hes really dope, defo used to think his style was a bit forced. I think like someone just said, maybe the Brent copycats put me off him more than he did himself. I also think I hated the fact all the older street skaters at the park would say he was the best transition skater haha.

Maybe I didn’t watch enough Brent Atchley because I didn’t see it as fake at all, maybe I was just enjoying the excitement to notice.
Said this many times but I like Felipe Gustavo’s style now even though it was the worst many years ago.
