I’m 20 years deep in IT and I still do that on occasion
The ramblings of a crackpot loon…
I don’t blame you. I kind of wish I hadn’t now. The first episode I randomly chose started with the theme from The Omen and a slow motion DP with a giant road cone on his head stumbling around his yard. A quick ffwd and he’s free styling a ‘song’ about Dave Hackett’s birthday and how he shouldn’t have had the cover of Skateboarder Mag about 40 years ago. Ffwd some more and he’s hating on Hawk and El Gato. The rest was incoherent gibberish about aliens and god knows what else. I dipped in to a few others - probably totally fucked my YT algorithm for a bit. Another thing is, despite him having visited a dentist and cleaned up a little, I swear I could smell him through the screen.
Ep #17 s babblings about Rocco and Big Brother Mag leads on to some complete nonsensical codswallop. Seeing that really made me think that he should probably be in some kind of secure institution for his and everyone else’s benefit. Who the hell is subscribing to his channel?
DP was relevant for a small window in time, decades ago.
He didn’t move forward with his skating and got left behind.
He was a dinosaur when I was a kid…and I’m old now.
He can bitch and moan about the world as much as he wants. It doesn’t matter. He is so irrelevant in 2021.
I don’t know if that’s fair. I’ve been aware of his career in the 2000 onwards era through various online forums including skullandbonesskateboards.com. He was generally pretty well regarded at first, and a lot of the people who posted there had personal dealings with him, skated with him, etc…
Seems like he’s been on a mental health downward spiral since his son died in 2007 with people reporting him being back on drugs etc…and that has accelerated since 2013 when he smashed his head up. I think the poor old bastard has brain damage for real.
I think he’s just an old miserable brian cant who had a bad upbringing.
I’m sure I remember him talking about how he could make $80 for drugs and drink at any comp for just bombing in from the platform… he went to jail, came out and expected to get some party money at the first comp he could but things had changed because of skaters like Tony Hawk progressing skating while he was inside and he was pissed off at Tony, as his free party money had gone forever, still holding a grudge, huh?
Yeah, I get you - but it’s not like he was moving forward in the early 2000’s (Menikmati, Mosaic & Sorry era, right?).
Well regarded, maybe - but even then, he was wheeled out at events as a well regarded throwback transition relic.
“The Master of Disaster!”…who was getting rings run around him by everyone.
Dude barely touched coping, opting to spin around on the surface just below it.
Funny thing is, he was 40 years old then which in the grand scheme of things, ain’t that old.
Ave is 42 and isn’t getting show-ponied around at events for what he once was. Even Hawks last part showed him coming up with new shit.
Hell, Suicu decided Hawk was so relevant, he took Tonys new tricks to the streets.
No one actually pushing skateboarding forward is looking at Duane for inspiration and hasn’t for decades.
Being well regarded in 1980 only carries you so far and if it got him to the early 2000s then good for him…but being well regarded 40 years after the fact…don’t be so fucking entitled.
Skull & Bones is a collectors forum largely which loves that era, so of course those people love him. That’s totally fine.
I dunno…I met him. A few times. American punks are weird to me, regardless…seems way faker that UK punks but he still gave off that cosplay vibe. The dudes a showman.
Yeah, he’s had a relatively successful career as a skateboarder and in the US Bombs and sure, he’s drug fucked but…so what? If he was a nice person, I’d probably be here typing about how we should give him a wide berth but from my crossovers with him, he doesn’t even have that.
I really don’t mean all the above disrespectfully towards you. I appreciate your view. My experience is just different…
Yeah I don’t rate him either. Having said that I saw him play a gig here in the early 2000s and I thought it was pretty sick.
In the context of other old skaters he just used to be someone who was still doing it for the love of it. He didn’t care if he wasn’t the best, he just liked going for it.
Now he’s all old and fucked and his brain is gone and he’s angry. It’s just sad, I don’t know what else to say about it.
Meanwhile all the punks he used to idolise are chilling in country mansions.
Bad luck/mental health problems aren’t an excuse for being a brian cant, it helps explain it but it doesn’t excuse it. If someone’s a brian cant they’re just a brian cant.
I preferred it when we were allowed to say brian cant
I used to think him and Duane Pitre were the same person.
Very confusing as this was pre-internet before everything could be explained easily.
He’s a 60 year old bloke who never had to get a job arsing about on a skateboard and spray painting nonsense on things and shouting into a microphone all around the world. If he’s acting the brian now then he can try and play it off as a rough upbringing but that was 50 years ago so chances are he’s just a brian
@Mark He’s got past security!
Oh, I’ve figured it!
Chill on the c word please it spanners my AdWords account and keeps getting reported for violations as not being child safe!
Will do, sorry
So incredibly good. Berra has been on there with his mates I think because when I did it earlier the voting was 100% for Berra haha.
