Lakai officially done

This is kinda sad for skateboarding but better for Lakai I suppose.
Their tour vids were always good. Their early ads were dope too.

Pappalardo’s Fully Flared section is quite timeless, and pretty much the only section from that vid that aged well.

Now let’s see Carroll joining the Legends division or whatever it’s called at Vans so we can get ill Half Cab colourways or something exciting.

The irony of this…Because at the time, it was kinda hated on.

I know! I remember people thinking that part was weird at the Lyon premiere. The same people were hyped on Mariano laser flipping out of slides. :man_shrugging:t4:

Lol :fishing_pole_and_fish:

Yeah I obviously forgot Carroll’s too.

This ^^

Each to their own but if I want to watch Lucas or JB footage, Fully Flared is definitely not the vid I go back to. This said, I never liked Ty Evans’ work much.

I agree kind of. I get footage fatigue watching that video because it’s long.
Not as long as Pretty Sweet which was the zenith of Ty Evan’s overwrought approach but yeah, I know what you mean @franc
With that said, you need to put yourself back into the context of when FF came out to fully appreciate its significance really.
That Mariano part, Mike Mo and Jesus (in particular) sign posted the future in a way that was massively prescient really.
Might go watch it again now

Watching it again now.

I’m watching MJ’s part and it’s giving me a semi as usual. The best.

This Pappalardo part could come out tomorrow and people would go mental about it.
The aesthetic, architecture, music, filming style and technical progression is current today but it came out 17 years ago. Stoked that he seems to have moved happily into well paid production work/being a dad. His legacy deserves it.

We need a Goodbye Lakai thread really but I’m loathe to make it for obvious Google footprint/skateshops/jobs reasons. Pretty shocking seeing this debacle in the light of rewatching Fully Flared.
