This is still fucking mind blowing
But they didnāt innovate really, sat on The Manchester for a minute and didnāt skim that down for a long time. Thatās my memory.
Jesus was always my favourite part in Fully Flared. Brought back 101 tech ledge enders but added finesse and beauty. Again, this part could come out today and people would shit their pants. Switch lipslide switch flip out to switch at full speed on the Milan ledge?
Always binged the Jensen/Brady part. Jensen switch nosegrind fakie flip in Milan still stands up, also has anything else been done on the spot of Bradyās ender? One and done?
Somebody did something on it recently (the banked bit on the wall drop off crook thing, right?).
I canāt remember who though
I never liked that part back in the day but watching it back I think itās only the ender I donāt really like and I think thatās only because the spot is so ugly.
Rewatching now for the first time in years. Everyone is so fucking good.
Was this Cairos last proper video part? Heās so gnarly.
Just realised I never saw The Flare, I donāt even remember it being released. Surprising as I loved the early videos and quite enjoyed Bubble as well. Did The Flare not get a full release or something?
Anyway, thereās some gems on the Lakai YouTube from back in the day
Oz tour
Biebel, Mariano, MJ
TāBrady
There was a London premiere of The Flare.
I remember being at the Fully Flared one (Prince Charles) and literally everyone in the UK seemed to be there. And more.
CorpseHands lost the digital camera and fully freaked out that @anonymity would fire him. And then found it down the back seat of the taxi.
But The Flare premiereā¦I think it was at The Richmix in Shoreditchā¦and no one I know went. People just couldnāt be bothered. I asked people for reviews the next day and no one I knew knew anyone who went, either.
Such a sign of how the times had changed.
All I can remember from that video is that there is a really weird B-roll clip of Reven Tersh which has fuck all to do with the trick which comes after. Sad.
FUCK OFF! fully flared didnāt come out 17 years ago⦠did it?
My god!
Even I went to the premiere. I hated most of the music, and all the skating felt progressive like the early 90s when pressure flips came out but this time it was see what you can do out of a smith grind.
Jesus was my favourite part too.
Thereās less time between questionable and fully flared, than fully flared and now.
FF and Static 3 prems within the space of a few weeks was unbelievable
Fully Flared was the top of the bell curve.
I remember when Fred brought a copy of Misled Youith back fromn the States and everyone was shocked at Jamieās part and how the fisheye made everythiung look massive. The editing also felt like a shock to the system.
He had a decent one in Oververt.
Fully Flared was pretty spectacular when it came out. The hype with the countdown to it arriving on their website. The (literally) overblown intro. Guy coming back from the dead skating to āThe Funeralā. 3 songs for MJ. Made it all the more legendary.
You donāt see this level of anticipation and size of production in videos anymore which is sort of a shame. These videos act as milestones in the history of skating and set the tone for skate culture at the time. They gave us all new ideas for tricks, new music to download (who canāt hear āGoodbye Horsesā and not think of MJās part [Silence of the Lambs aside]), and, generally, a shared experience in watching and caring about this video.
No mention of Rick Howardās section? That was definitely his last one and showed he still had it.
On a purely personal level, aside from it being an absolute banger of a video, Fully Flared is particularly memorable as the premiere was the first āout as a couple in publicā date for me and my (now) wife.
Some obstacle that.
