Can’t pay the mortgage with legacy though. Unless you’re Gino I suppose.

You find a way to pay the mortgage though, you can earn money doing anything.

for the record, I don’t think MJ was wrong to take the adidas money unless he knew he wasn’t going to follow up with any work pre the deal. I was just repliying to a comment making money the excuse to do anything.

Do you think that’s always true of ex pro skaters though? Not sure it is, especially in his case where he seems to be really struggling.

There would be a lot of mental gymnastic and the feeling of failing by getting “real work” of course.

It’s not a fun scenario for anyone that has felt some success. Most people will always take money if it means staying in your field. He does seem to have had a time of it mentally which I empathise with so who are we to even debate about his situation anyway?

I just feel that the outlook of making money is an ok way to paper over questionable choices isn’t a healthy outlook.

Quite the marathon line and in the Penny jacket too :ok_hand:

Whilst I definitely agree and the whole skate ‘industry’ is predicated on Peter Pan syndrome - people could always just get a fucking job like the rest of us rather than crying about not getting money for some kickflips they did as a teenager.

Not directed at any skater in particular but I hate hearing this stuff. Like when Greco talked about how ‘hard’ it was doing the same thing everyday referring to skating. Try working on the till at B&M everyday bellend.

Exactly.

Completely agree, but my worry is that some skaters, particularly those who drop pout of education to chase the ‘dream’, actually can’t get and hold down a real job. Some have bad social skills or lack even common sense. Their life chances are seemingly massively restricted by having been/tried to become a pro skater.

Many could be voiceover actors for nature programmes or maybe extras in a new Mad Max movie.

Cry me a river though.

Expecting an industry based on exploiting youth to give a toss about continued professional development is lolz worthy.

But yeah…I take your point

I don’t follow football at all. What happens to them when they fall off?

A game of skate down an 8 stair is hardly going to prove all that entertaining.

Tricks down stairs probably account for about 10-20% of what gets done in street league, so not sure how a whole contest based on that, where you’re only allowed to skate the rail 3 times, is gonna go. Other than horribly of course.

There’s literally no avenue for excitement…
