her parents are savage as fuck, getting serious decunha’s dad vibes
That was like the epilogue on a Hollywood movie, so contrived, really misses the target.
I know she got fucked up and hope she gets well soon but ugh
While we’re on the topic of things that make us feel outraged and disgusted, I just want to send a huge fuck you to whoever is behind @skybrown’s socials. I get the feeling, as a lot of people do, that it might be you, the parents, who are orchestrating this shitshow of child abuse for the whole world to see. Imagine being 11 years old, barely conscious after almost dying from a frontside air your parents forced you to attempt, then having to read a script from your hospital bed that your folks have pre-written for their YouTube channel. Fuck this shit. This isn’t skateboarding. As far as I can tell this is exploitation of a minor by a group of adults fixated on gold medals and dollar signs. I truly hope Sky is able to survive long enough to see you for what you are. Fuck you.
Bretnovak commenting on the post saying he knows the parents are sound. I’d like to think Tony Hawk would clock if some kid is being pushed like that.
Either way that’s video is horrendous. Why?
They might be sound but does it make it right? I guess it depends what type of parent you are.
It’s iffy enough that she’s competing as a Brit and I don’t care which parent is British or half British or whatever, they’re clearly tactical in everything they do.
yeah i’m sorry but i’m in this boat. the interview thing is horrible but Tony Hawk is good people and spends a lot of time with Sky, if there were issues there he’d flag it for sure
As others have pointed out, you’d at least expect some foam padding to protect from any falls but there was none. If I’d had a slam like that at 11 I’d have been seriously shaken but she’s already talking about how she’s going to compete in Tokyo next year! It just feels completely wrong to me on all kinds of levels.
I just felt he has been in skateboarding long enough and around young dudes he would know the signs.
Just to reiterate that video is fucked. Have you seen the YouTube comments, mad.
@hugo I’m not sure how comfortable I’d feel with my son skating that shit, but I mean she’s obviously competent enough to skate that stuff - but I don’t ever want him to feel like he had to do Olympic Gold in anything. He can just do him and be happy in whatever he chooses.
No it’s not that she’s skating vert, it’s that she’s 11 and is micro managed by her parents.
Tony Hawks dad was supportive and helped him build ramps and helped sanction skateboard competitions when they were dying, he knows what it’s like to have parental support…but Sky’s parents are clearly a different level.
Refuse to watch the video.
Reading through all of this tells me all i need to know and makes me feel uncomfortable enough about it for a handful of reasons.
No it’s not that at all, it’s that she was attempting something that only a full blown adult pro should be trying in my opinion at least. Nothing wrong at all with the general stuff she does, even if I’ll avoid watching any of it now.
I don’t agree with that, she can 540, i’m sure she’s good enough to FS Air the channel. Was just off balance going in, unfortunate accident.
Has she got a reality TV show thing yet?
Fair enough, I’d say foam padding would’ve been a good idea and that the risk of injury was far greater.
Bored of this now really, I’ll just avoid watching.
But aren’t most 11 year olds micro managed to a certain extent - I mean obviously most people aren’t getting there kid to go to the olympics at 11.
What’s the difference in the Tony Hawks Dad saving skateboarding competitions and Sky’s parents wanting her to go to the Olympics?
I don’t like pushy parents either but this is interesting ![]()
Yeah defo.
In one of her stories a few weeks ago she reposted something from her dad where he was saying he wished she wouldn’t push herself so much, so I do think her drive factors into it . As has been said though, she is 11 so he could just put his foot down. I suppose it can be difficult for parents to know where to draw the line when the child is gifted at something?
Plus she has been clearing that gap easily, so I doubt anyone was worried that would happen. But yeah, crash mats at least.
