I’m fairly sure I’ve had this out on here before but I think people are just thrown by the fact he was one of the best skaters in the world and then wasn’t, throwing yourself down stuff isn’t easily sustained, look at Arto for evidence of that.
That said I don’t think it’s like he fully fell off and stopping skating to any degree of difficulty, Soul Rebel is not all nollie bigspins either, he hits pretty varied terrain as well. He’s nowhere near his peak but I actually really enjoy his current output, especially given how nice his style is.
A pro of a time will just cease to be able to progress. Progression comes in waves and those waves always have hungry ams pushing, pros get washed up with no fault of their own. Some pro’s can hang in there, some can even keep pushing way through wave after wave but even they come to an end with age.
Appleyard is lucky that he has such a good style so people will want to see him regardless, most don’t have that.
Happy (belated) Yorkshire Day to all.
We’ve been away so forgot to post this on here for the non-Insta types.
Snoz footage is always worth a look.
Me at the end in a woman’s wedding hat too for whatever reason.
He maybe saw the level of skating coming up from behind and felt he couldn’t stay ahead even though definitely helped pave the way for them. Retreated to Element in a sulk as flip was bringing in new gnarly blood. In time maybe realised that he still has to offer something as people crave other skating, not just kill yourself gnarl, and that flip had flopped.
I used to quite enjoy Cody Mac, he did those murder flip blunts and blunt murder flips and they were quite fun. He is a total stinker though, but I don’t mind
