It all started in Chuck Taylors no less! I’m glad this historical documentary of the birth of skateboarding still exists.
Look at sell out Marty skating in his Nike’s in 1985. he should have stuck with a core-skate footwear brand like Converse…
Admittedly, I am hounding you abit here, so take it mild jest if you can, but what’s the relevance of corpo American shoe companies pressuring uk skate shops in regard to landscape and isle going under?
Isle’s entire team left 4 years previous to them officially pulling the plug.
No offense to Jensen, shier and Chris but do you think if they made soft goods and boards that resonated with the British skate scene they would have sold more?
The clothes were plain tees with isle written on them.
The boards were (IMO) pretty boring to look at.
They made a full length in 2015. But no memorable media beyond that.
Why is it Nike’s fault that they didn’t sell enough product?
Everyone involved is nice, interesting and really good at skateboarding but isle isn’t blueprint.
Blueprint had a team, constant video and media output and graphics people wanted to buy.
It’s not.
Their output post Vase was weak
Nah - not having that!
Totally agree with your other points FWIW
This came out a couple of years ago and was an effort to reinvigorate the brand, but it did feel a little undercooked.
Reading between the lines from the Jensen interview the reason it seemed to go down was due to the two owners getting deeper into other things. Nick with his art and Shier with his role at adidas. Which given both things is going to take away your focus on running and pushing the brand, which in turn means it just ran its course.
I blame fine art for the downfall of Isle!
Ah yea, I remember (but only after rewatching).
That was sick, but I feel like a company with a team that good could put something like that together pretty regularly, even without a budget to go overseas or on trips.
Hey ho, all good people. It just didn’t work out
