Jason Isaacs

Jeremy Irons paid for the skatepark in Watlington that Simon Evans and a few others had photos on in RaD. If the stories are true that is.

Yes - as earlier post says Dexter Fletcher’s brother (Graham Fletcher-Cook) was a skater and actor. Also I believe Vas Blackwood could quite possibly be the Vas who used to rip Cantelowes in 70s/early 80s. Also know for a fact that Jason Statham skates every now and again. Seen him on a board at a London park about a year ago. Just dabbling though.

I heard Andrew Garfield claiming he flipped the 7 at south bank.
Was on an A24 podcast with that Harris Dickinson who also said he skated.

Joe Milsson had the ramp on the car in RAD (amongst others), and he contributed to RAD and Skate Action. Not sure if he ever stopped skating but he still skates vert now.

He’s also funny as fuck and super nice.

I think we can assume he didn’t have a pro board, or we’d have seen it by now. Probably in every interview, chat show, and on the wall of his office etc.

Are there any sort of pro lists from back then or is it a muddled, murky time where anyone could be pro (or claim)? I always thought they’d be a pretty well known timeline of British pros?
I’m guessing he thinks being pro is getting free (shop) stuff and paid to organise a demo once or twice?

Was telling my mrs about this and she thinks it’s a PR thing that his team have got him to push so he seems edgy. He’s probably gunning for the next Bond

I didn’t intend to comment on this again in any detail but this is a very good question - and probably gets close to touching on the real issue here.

I don’t know if there is any kind of documented list of pros but during this period 1977-1978 there were perhaps 100 -200 or so UK skaters appearing regularly in the magazines. Most were affiliated to manufacturers or shops. Take a look at the issues of Skateboard magazine here Skateboard Magazine (UK) | VSM and you’ll get an idea of who they were. Jason Isaacs is not one of them.

That said, these skaters weren’t pros is the sense of a pro today. Some had their own boards but I can’t honestly think of more than about 20
UK skaters who did so. Incidentally, most of these pros were aged 14-18 too.

And it was also a crazy time for the skateboard industry with a lot of chancers getting involved. There were a large number of other shops and manufacturers who also had teams and skaters affiliated to them - and I would say the standard of skating here wasn’t anywhere near as high as the 200 skaters featured in the magazines. The modern age or skating was still relatively new and there was a demand for skaters to do demos at a local level etc. If there is any truth in what Jason Isaacs is saying, he was probably involved in this kind of thing. But as I mentioned in an earlier post, by using the term pro he is giving the wrong impression to anyone who skated post-1980.
