A little fib that he has got away with unchecked for years around friends, that he now feels he can over confidently use in the media? Seems such an odd choice.

…or he is telling a massively exaggerated version of one summer in his youth?

Bloody hell! The cheek of the man. Wanted to listen but probably they’re editing it out as we speak. Says not available yet.

Might write to the BBC points of view.

Edit: it’s up now. 56 mins-ish. So cringe.

From an interview in the Guardian, Nov 2020

you could edit your past, what would you change?
I wouldn’t have spent so much time trying to be a professional skateboarder or snooker player.

And from a BBC interview around the same time:

…”And there was the skateboarding-obsessed version, who would sneak down to the South Bank every available second, change uniform and accent, and ride for hours with a rough crowd“

It’s a well known fact that nobody had to change their accent down Southbank back then.

Hold up, anyone got Kermode’s autobiography?

I went to school with the great film reviewer Mark Kermode, and in his autobiography he remembers me as an incredibly confident kid who was the first person to take a skateboard to school. That must have been true, to him, but to me – at least in my memory, it was all bluff.

Found it on archive.org

This thread is fast becoming a time classic, I really hope he sees this somehow, however unlikely that is.

That’s why no-one recognises or remembers him! He was doing the old Clark Kent!

(…or getting in early that no-one would remember him, used a fake name, accent and changed his clothes innit… for when he is called out )

Maybe he’s actually Richie Jackson

Work colleague just said he heard him on the Radio and asked if I knew. I said there is some controversy and speculation on this. ha.

Are there actually any British actors that were skaters that we know of?

Dexter Fletcher’s brother made arguably the first ever Uk skate video (at least how we conceive of it in a modern sense). Ollie the Gap came out in 1987 but only a fragment is online.
