Longform articles and texts

Not sure there’s an existing thread for such a thing, but I thought I’d start a thread for sharing interesting articles, interviews, texts, etc.

Part of why I’m starting with the below article is because it’s situated in Tallinn and I believe @Mark you’re based there, if I’m not mistaken?

In the Museum of Forbidden Books is about a museum of banned and forbidden books which asks me to reflect on what the boundary is or should be on access to free speech - or whether or not one should exist at all. For example, on the extreme end of testing one’s limits to free speech, the museum includes a book which essentially helps men take advantage of drunken women.

It’s interesting to me because I feel true free speech seems more acceptable offline than online, partly because I feel the latter can be weaponised more readily.

Anyway, I hope this can become a place to exchange interesting articles and subsequent discussion.

Only joking, that’s mad I never heard of that museum before, might go check it out

*edit it’s only 20 min walk from mine, right near where I take the kids swimming

I think Macchiavelli’s The Prince has probably caused all kinds of harm through the years, and that book was circulated privately for years before being published after he died. Arguably it’s better to have these things in the public domain instead of in the hands of a few?

Was thinking about this topic and remembered this from my schooldays. Thought I’d post it here. Me and my mates made a few bits from this, gunpowder and some other things. Always thought it was pretty cool but most of the stuff described is flawed.

More info here in the unlikely event you haven’t heard if it

I remember that was one of the first ‘dark’ things swirling around the web in the late 90s
