Somehow I had never seen this footage of Mike, which looks like it was filmed over a couple of sessions at the works and I was so staggered I had to start a new thread. Obvs it’s not news to say he was/is one of the most transcendentally gifted skaters ever, but just to see what one of his random sessions was like, just beggars belief. A true savant.

Never seen that before either and it was absolutely amazing. The guy is a prodigy. His Baghead Flats part is one of my favourite sections ever.

I speak to Mike semi-regularly - last I heard he was back living in Hebden Bridge, attending writing classes and working in a charity shop.

Had the pleasure of spending quite a bit of time with him when I lived in Leeds. Such an enormously nice, humble guy who could seemingly make his skateboard do literally whatever he wanted. I used to think he looked like he was following the board around, rather than trying to make it go where he wanted.
Just moved to shef to uni, turned round the corner at Subway 9 to watch him fs bigspin it.
Then a couple years later Beall and I went round the corner and watched lintel do that mad 50
Man, probably haven’t watched this since the Leeds premiere, I’d forgotten about a few of these dudes.
It was always wild to see Mike skate at Hyde Park, he could seemingly do anything he wanted on his board

Joe’s OK. He was very unwell in the summer of 2021 and left skateboarding behind for the sake of his health. He’s in a stable relationship and seems to be quite happy.

There’s so many things you could say about Mike Wright’s skating.
Given that his zenith was just before social media ruined everything, he feels like the last true mysterious wizard of UK skating.
