Cheers for the tip I’ll check that
Speaking of fierce bass players, RIP Jennifer Finch from L7.
Yep, thanks for the tip from me too! Will check
Been listening to some absolute filth recently.
This is good for a gym session. Guantanamo style motivation
It’s a lot more mellow than I was expecting. Good stuff though still
I got a copy of this album for £3 last week in a local antiques hall, never knew it existed, it’s like if Jaws was set in 1970s Harlem and Sheriff Brody was a baaaad motherfucker (shut your mouth)
I’ve got this it’s sick.
All those CTI records are bangers btw. I’ve been collecting them.
The recording quality and arrangements are so good. Everything is spaced so nicely and they’ve all got lovely Don Sebesky string arrangements. Cool art too.
My favorites:
I had not heard of this or the label. Sounds sick I’ll check it when I’m back on WiFi
Top tips lads![]()
I didn’t know about this label, so thanks, good rabbit hole. I did know about Freddie Hubbard ‘Red Clay’ because it’s a youtube fave of mine since way back, it sparked me off on a big ol’ Ron Carter rabbit hole dive that’s yet to stop. He ‘liked’ one of my comments on insta once, CMOAC.
Also check out Kudu records - sister label of CTI. More on the soul/R&B end.
You’ll def have heard some of the Idris Muhammad ones before. E.g. Turn This Mutha Out which got sampled by basically everyone. There’s loads more records like that.
My bro is a bit of a jazz funk nerd and every now and then buys me some lps for a birthday or something so I have some dope stuff, but beyond that not much general knowledge of it
I just checked this out, literally ten seconds into “Sacred Love 2” and I’m ordering a copy of the lp from his bandcamp
Edit: no I’m not, the shipping is mental. I’ll be patient and try and get one later.
I quite like the throwaway nature of all that, but then again I would like some of them preserved a bit more
I’m assuming Sam was his girlfriend, and the one who inspired the track Tha
(Bet she was fit)
Tried to get through my local but it was on back order and seemed to go out of stock pretty quick from the usual outlets. Managed to get one for 30 quid inc. postage on eBay. Still available if that suits you:
Glad you’re enjoying it!
She looked like a small girl in a white dress with his big grinning face and there were 12 of her
Ordered! Thanks again for the heads up
So stoked to finally have this one to complete my Foxxes collection. There was a copy in one of the record shops in Bristol last month that sold the day before I went there to grab it, then this copy popped up on Discogs this week. Get in.
Yeah, this. Or maybe just a bit more curation? Maybe that would placate me - nicely curated digital releases/archive.
Sams car is lovely. Forgot about that one.
