We’re a bit further down the coast (as you know) and met some friends at a beach under some cliffs a couple of days ago. I wasn’t amused at having to wade through near-waist high water to go to the loo when the tide was coming in, so ended up climbing some cliffs etc.
Gateshead’s infamous 5 Bridges spot/park is being demolished this week.
I’m sure @Bish will have more info but this is a sad day - it’s a spot with loads of history, has existed for as long as Southbank and hosted, (amongst other things) steve75’s memorial jam the year of his death. Pour one out.
More info here: A survey of the flyover structure has found significant areas of concrete were loose directly above the skate park, and Gateshead Council officers have moved quickly to close the skate park to prevent harm to the public.
Yeah there were barriers around the whole area, closing part of the road ages ago, ect. It’s not just the skate park that is unsafe by the look of it. Seems like the whole structure will be coming down sooner or later. @Bish and @visuals0und will have more details.
We used to buy a Day Explorer back in the early 90s, you could go anywhere in the North East for something like £4, any bus, local trains, metro and even the South Shields ferries all included. Bliss. Wake up go to Newcastle/Gateshead, then the Oval (Concord skate park), finally finishing at South Shields to cool down at the beach. That was our weekends sorted. All gone now.
Thought it was just a heavy cold and horrible sore throat I’d picked up from Arctangent, but I had a couple of tests knocking around in a draw so did one on the off chance.
Supposed to be going to Bristol tomorrow for a tattoo FFS.
I do feel like shit, though I’d probably feel ok enough by tomorrow. Though part of me is thinking will I be too knackered by the time I get the train from London.
But should I still be going out and about now that I know it’s more than a cold? I’ve forgotten what the rules are. I dont want to be coughing on people
We have the final part of our move tomorrow and sad to say this cute little bugger isn’t coming with. She has visited our flat since moving to Norwich and spent full days hanging out with us. I plucked up the courage and asked the owner if she would consider letting us adopt but the answer was a kindly worded no. Pretty gutted but hey at least i got the benefits of having a cat and none of the cost! Also means we will be getting a cat in the future.
So the flyover has been crumbling for years and then at Christmas it got partially shut as bits were falling off it. But it’s a nightmare because it’s kind of the main route into the Toon for various roads (aka 5 Bridges).
The 5 Bridges part has actually still been open but they decided they were gonna knock the flyover down a few months back.
We thought that might just result in there being no more cover but then it turned out the whole road was being redeveloped.
I heard the council want to rebuild it somewhere else which still has cover but I’m dubious that will end up happening.
It’s a shame there wasn’t a bit of notice so there could have been a jam but I’m assuming it’s because if they did 100s of people could of turned up to a place with an already crumbling roof!
Flags on lampposts, St george’s cross’ on the zebra crossing at the local Asian family run newsagents, ‘England forever’ in red paint on the side of a local predominantly black following church in my area.
Just arrived home and two of the Zebra crossings have half cocked red lines on them and a few houses have flags. They’re all being played by the rich, bloody idiots.
