Ah nice.
Not Marc on the discovery+ feed. Some English guy who doesn’t know skateboarding and an American female skater who apparently competed in Japan. Don’t recognise her voice and can’t find a commentator listing. Either way they’re chatting shit
Noted. I’m way behind in Japanese skaters’ names. Pretty sure I saw one of them land a crooks heel flip out on instagram though. It won’t be long before we see it on a rail.
Adam Peaty 2nd
Graham Bell (ski sunday fame) and Amelia Brodka are working for the Olympic Broadcast Service and thats the stream they’re using on discovery+. / Eurosport. I worked with him for the two previous qualifiers - Shanghai and Budapest and it was awkward / challenging to say the least. Amelia’s doing a good job as far as im concerned based on the above.
He seemed like an alright commentator just doesn’t know the sport at all and talked out his butt a fair bit. They had a comment about the female commentator competing in the Japan Olympics for the US team? Whoever she is she said some odd stuff. Although having listened to Geoff Rowley commentate SLS before maybe people just talk out of their butt’s to fill airtime
The women’s park was awesome. I struggle to get behind the idea of Olympic skateboarding but it really drew me in. Had drama, emotion, so much quality. Looking forward to women’s park more than the men’s
She skated in the Tokyo Olympics for Poland - she has dual nationality.
Ah makes sense. It must be hard talking about live sports for hours like that. Especially something as nuanced as skateboarding. That Graham guy trying to explain the concept of switch you could hear the lady grinding her teeth almost
Pretty sure Churchill or the other commentator on iplayer compared it to parking a caravan in reverse
The graham guy started talking about taking a serve in tennis with your left hand
Yeah that will have been Momiji who won the gold in street last year.
I like that better.
And I can’t reverse my caravan for shit hence why i have a remote control, switch it ain’t though.
Can we expect “switch” to creep up into general conversation?
“Hey Mike, I really like what you did with that portfolio for the client.”
“Cheers, Will! Actually I went at it switch by cross referencing the case files against the recommendations.”
“Nice. I think Steve did something like that with the Booker file…?”
“Nah, that was switch mongo!”
“… Sorry, you lost me.”
I liked rollerblading’s use of the term ‘unnatural’ tbh. Shoot me.
Anyone else remember when switch was referred to as ‘fakie nollie’?
Opposite footed!

Dunno about the conversations you’re having but switches come up in my conversation a lot

Wait I thought that was fakie being called switch nollie?
Nah in the tech est days of RaD switch flips were called fakie nollie flips for minute.
Opposite footed is a better term though I agree.
I remember when switch didn’t exist…
What did you call it if you did a trick whilst writing with your left hand etc etc
