Olympics 2024

trying not to see spoilers but Iplayer is shite for this coverage, where are people watching?

Edit, seems it’s just popped up on the one I had on in the background

These were just clips of a few bits.

Just watching highlights smoking a banger.

I’m struck by how prescient some of Gavin Hills’ How to become the World’s greatest street skater article is.

Particularly the about working on n.b.d s

Link??

Anyone wearing an eye-catching yet stylish hat? And Black Arabs for the music would seal the deal

So shocked and stoked on the level of womens skating though! The consistency and level of tricks over such a short period of time, doesn’t feel that far behind the men now. Incredible.

Indeed

It was the same in the early days of the 2012 games too, before the bigger events like boxing, swimming or athletics started, then there was Super Saturday, GB killing it the velodrome, etc.
I recall there were lots of unclaimed / unused tickets, largely going to corporate sponsors and whatnot, or people who got tickets and didn’t want to go.

Needless to say, the womens’ beach volleyball was a sellout.

Watching the Linford documentary on iplayer and it’s so depressing. He seems like a top dude, was a brilliant runner, but he was surrounded by total c.nuts at the time and possibly still is. I remember the whole Linfords Lunchbox thing and it was fucking disgusting.

Was very lucky and saw the whole day live. Prelims and finals.
Skipped out on heat 3 of prelims as I needed 22 litres of water and some shade.

Man, I gotta say - it was pretty exciting. In the way the scores worked, it kept it pretty even.

Felt bad for Shane. First run curse. He was looking good right before in practice.

Cordano is actually amazing to watch. He is definitely kinda stinking but his trick selection is so out there. That fakie 360 flip backlip was insane. He hadn’t tried that once, all day…and then threw it out like nothing.
It’s a shame he fucked his run, otherwise he’d have been a contender.

Not feeling Jagger at all. Born in the USA made me laugh.
He does do switch backside 180 nosegrinds down rails in runs, though…and flips into regs ones. Mad.
But not into him.

Milou was total crowd favourite.

The camerman fucking up Gustavos trick was a pretty bad moment. Just…so awkward after. Like, kind of fucked him over.

Snoop Dogg showed up in the crowd and then Nyjah skated to Still DRE and went mental. That was a bit of a moment.
Tbh, Nyjah was good today. Didn’t mind him one bit.

Yuto is just so next level. Love it.

Also, as much as people hate Kelvin - I feel like Brazillians held contests down whilst no one else gave a fuck from 2005-2018 (and okay, yeah…probably ruined it, too) so I like that he is in there. Brazil deserves it, y’know?

Pretty good experience. Would do it again, I think.

Fave moment: My dad texting me saying he just saw Jagger Eaton skate and thinks he’ll just watch canoeing instead.
Nice of him to try, tho.

I saw a bit of that the other day, need to finish it. Racist cops harassing and framing him while he was minding his business at training. And yeah the way he was treated on telly, the fucked up thing is we didn’t really notice at the time

Had $50 on Yuto to hit gold, just screamed my head off alone in my home office whilst I’m supposed to be working haha.

Also, surely Jagger’s last try was always going to be null and void, because waxing isn’t allowed on the obstacles once the competition started.

Perhaps they should strip him of his whole medal in fact.

Love it.

@Londonskater it seems you saw it exactly as I saw it. Agree with everything you said

I don’t know how he does it, but Kelvin looks like quite a big strong dude, yet seems so light on his feet like he won’t fall off or miss a trick

Yeah, Jagger was very last to go. Nyjah clearly let him know it is sticky to skate. Actually, the skaters were all complaining that the edges of the hubbas were so sharp, they didn’t grind well.

So, I guess thinking he was last to go meant he could break the rules. But…you are right. He broke a rule and then stood on the podium.

Maybe if that last trick was a make, it would have been taken away?

Odd situation.
Would have been quite funny to see.

Also, gotta add - when Ginwoo dropped in early in the day, hearing grown adults boo a tiny kid was fucking wack.
I’m not a fan but adults booing children is and always will be fucking lame.

Agree. Harder but he stank it up so fair scoring

There must be some kind of precedent in other Olympic sports when someone breaks a rule during the competition.

Fuck that.

Ginsterwoo is rad. I wish he wasn’t so competition focused and came out with some bizarre street clips with his weird feet.

It’d just be 200 clips all with variations on backside kickflips.

Finally watched it. Crazy that Tury got his tricks down and got up there. He might be the nicest dude ever and loved that he was in the mix with the big guys but damn, he looks like under his clothes his legs go all the way up to his shoulders so his crotch is between his collar bones and yet he still has no movement in them. Maybe he’s a small Men in black Alien on stilts?
Nyjah grooving before his run was cringey but because Jagger’s in the room Nyjah is instantly likeable. Jagger doing the most insane things but yet is completely dislikeable. He is just horrible to watch, he’ll be unbearable after another medal I reckon.
Cordano sails on the stink/athelete side a bit but in the right way, he’s fun to watch and fuck me, that fakie 360flip just twatted out of nowhere.
