Powerful statement

No matter how much I think of the fedora/bum wiping ickiness of Lutzka, that fs alley oop 270 flip over meanwhile cannot be fucked with

Lutzka had bangers and a unique trick selection. If he had a bit of taste he could have been remembered in an entirely different light

Fedora never really bothered me. People have worn worse. People wear worse in 2024 :joy: Dude was pretty goddam incredible and had a solid trick selection

He thrived perfectly in the era he was in, but couldn’t move with the times.
Did I just imagine that at some point he did a front 270 kickflip to back noseblunt on a skatepark rail?

Hell yeah he did

Every time I see Midler pop up on SLS I always let out a groan of disapproval. Then somehow I end up being surprised that I like him. He looks as though he’s stumbled in there by accident but he has an enjoyable wild card thing going on.

Ok, on paper, Lutzka is better. Fedora and dubious sponsorship deals aside he was a more capable skateboarder and he was Gonz approved for a bit. Thing is though he’s a dick these days, heading in the Mikey Taylor business bro, manifesting bollocks direction. Give me Midler over that dude any day.

milder will go that exact same route in the next 5 years.
He exists purely to shill deodorant, the state of California’s tourism adverts and iced tea/tex max fast food chains/protein bars.

When that money dries up he’ll be sponging off the culture by any means possible

I don’t know why I’ve woken up with this much disdain for the lad

Well, you could be right there. But in the meantime I’ll favour contemporary Midler over contemporary Lutzka all day.

Mind you things would probably have been the other way around a decade or two ago.

I remember Lutska being the stand out skater from a blog I used to love in the early days of the internet called wiskate. They used to post weekly edits with clips from everyone in the scene/crew.

A quick Google later and i’m pleasantly surprised to see it up and running!

I also used to like SkateAz and Post22

Lutzka always came across like he was feeling himself too much, especially towards the middle of his career - the sunglasses fedora combo went to his head a bit.

But he was, arguably, one of the best skaters in the world for a couple of years - he won Tampa pro 3 times. He overplayed the fs 360 flip to lip/blunt, but that was pretty mad the first time he did it

This is good pre-fedora.

The story I heard was he got dropped by deluxe after they saw his bedroom was plastered with his own magazine coverage .

He was the first pro on Krooked non?

Wasn’t sure where this was going at first

Van Wastell went round to the Lutzka’s house and got a similar experience to this Partridge moment. Mentioned it to Gonz and he got the boot.

And there was the time Nieratko had to explain to Lutzka the correct way to wipe your arse was not to make a mitten out of toilet paper to do it.

Hence the Almost Lutzka ‘Toilet Paper Mummy’ deck.

Isn’t Midler’s mother a milf?

Thought that was Justin Eldridge

If Lutzka had been rooming with Eldy he might have got away without blocking the drains. Eldy’s technique is two wipes, no look, hope for the best.
