New episode of Beyond Boards with Javi Mendizabal. I’m only halfway through it but he’s definitely one of the most lovable people in skateboarding with BA and Ryan Lay.
So much love for Javier. That video interview the other month was sick too. Always craved more footage of him. Would love him to put out more clips even if it was just casually shredding the park.
Some brilliant questions in that. Even though it was going over old ground, I enjoyed hearing about the Monster stuff again. I’m glad he’s set on not retiring at any point soon, I’m actually quite surprised how he seems to be in such good shape.
Maybe a couple of years ago you could tell he wasn’t skating much or in the best shape from the odd clip he posted. Seems to be back in the groove now, which is good to see.
This interview is 3 hours and 30 minutes long and he doesn’t say one single thing that’s corny or silly or anything.
I love everything he said about his 360 flips, how he lands one out of three, how they are a blessing and a curse and all that.
Any excuse:
Quite the iconic 360 flip (the 360 flip of course but the powerslide, the wheel screech and the cars going quite fast and all that… so ill) and the Pier 7 line is splendid.
I was there the other day, the street gap is gone now but Ted B. showed me where it was and I felt like Colombus when he thought he discovered America or something.
Oh this one too! I know @Mark is gonna agree with me:
411 best of volume 4 is a stone cold classic. This video left me and my mates with so my questions though, like does Donger always go on tour with a portable turntable that he plays sideways? Is the threshold to get on Edward Sebastian really that low? Was the drag queen at the beginning of Cairo Foster’s Wheels of Fortune his homie? Why does Sad’s part feel like is goes on for ever (was is because of the worlds slowest 50/50)? But most of all, why is Cairo’s ender a heel flip over the same street gap that Kalis tre flips earlier in the video in the chaos section? Then there’s peak turtle boy era Reynolds skating to no music! Amazing skating, lots of 411 type idiosyncrasies.
I prefer the BCN Triomphe 360 flip personally - that or the one over the bin in Heavy Metal (see below). Kalis pretty much invented the single person video part concept too.
Oh yeah I remember being shocked by how good this one was when Heavy Metal first came out. Jaw-dropping stuff. You didn’t see that many clean, popped flip tricks then.
Just watched his section (in Heavy Metal) again and it’s still so good, timeless shit. Awesome trick selection, super solid style and OG SF spots… Unfuckwithable.
