Spent decades skating alone from age 13 to 30 something and only recently* developed enough social awareness to make friends haha. So I’ve gone the other way.
We have a local Whatsapp group with about 20 odd 30/40/50 year olds and people just dip into that if they are looking for some sweaty time.
I generally just have a few hours per week and friends who have kids are the same. The skaters without kids will show up whenever suits them, but with limited time, I’ll be at the skatepark at 3 on Saturday or whatever and focus on skating for a few hours. The social aspect is great, but if nobody’s there, or can’t make it or whatever, why should that stop me? It’s not football, nobody needs a team to go skating.
Saying that, it is rad to ride up to one local park here in summer and it’s like the United Nations with a large squad of mainly Brazilians and Croatians, dudes from around Europe, a couple from SA and what not. Good vibes.
Yeah, I’m definitely up for another TOTW or fortnight. I think it’s @franc 's turn if that’s cool as he won the last one that I set. Got a nice indoor for it too!
Yeah that’s cool, go for it. Francois said he’s injured so it makes sense. Probably best to make it trick of the fortnight or maybe month is better even.
worst product experiences.
i saw @franc 's ‘worst skater to get a shoe’ thread, and giggled at flipping the idea around
i had a pair of DVS - their Dunk hi-top homage. the sole completely peeled off. skating on inner sole was not enjoyable
also had a pair of Adios. the air bubble burst, leaving my feet wobblier than Liz Truss’s accountancy skills. cue one unhappy knee.
i still haven’t forgiven you Tony Hawk
