Amazing :star_struck:

What was the general opinion on Adam McNatt’s Celebrity Tropical Fish part when it came out?

Why?

I presume he was regarded as a hot amateur destined for greater things. Some of the tricks he does still hold their weight today. Bs 360 manuals, bs big spin fakie manual, switch fs heel flip a gap, that bs 360 biggerspin thing…

He got scooped up by 101 shortly afterwards so his stock was good.

For reference

In 90/91 Video parts and videos weren’t received like they are now. There was such a small amount of stuff everything was viewed positively and you found the good in all. Possibly some odd exceptions.
McNatt was great though, we were all hyped on him and stoked when he got on 101.
Any world team at the time meant you’d made it.

Just wondering because I watched his CTF part earlier today and it seems particularly mental and apart from the the 5050 nollie flip on the funny rail I don’t know much about him

I remember when CTF came out, him and Conklin were the fresher faces on there so I lapped that shit up

Even now I remember Conklin’s music being a huge missed opportunity

Talked a load of shit about the industry in an interview and was kind of blacklisted after that.

Was it like an antwaun in baker 3 moment when everyone was collectively like ‘what the fuck who is this guy?’, or just a ‘yes, good section in a good video’

Good section in a good video.
He was on Alva before Powell.

Was he still on 101 when he did that interview?
Or like Goodtimes or whatever it was.

Nah, if 101 wasn’t done by the time the interview came out, it would have been around trilogy time then and he wasn’t on.

Am I missing something here? It sounds like he didn’t even have a board sponsor at that point?

Hugely influential at a time when skaters were few. He also had a controversial interview in TWS a few years later where he slagged off non-Californians for coming to Cali to get famous and also slagged off pros who ‘didn’t technically advance the sport”.

He did a lot of tech ledge stuff first but the filming in those early parts was always shite.
He used to get clowned on by OG Crail types for deliberately trying to make regular tricks look switch by doing this weird twisted ride away.

How does one remove bird shit from griptape?

The good old toothbrush and soapy water technique maybe?

Just a top tier amateur who for the time be was pushing technical skating.

The infamous Kasso level rail skating with the 5050 nollie flip was post 101 by a few years in so much as his being on the team was concerned. I’m not sure who he was riding for at the time but it was definitely c-list. Maybe Recs shoes? He could have easily ridden for other top companies with his skills but he mouthed off and industry excluded him.

Sidenote: Didn’t Ronnie betting do a similar thing or am I getting those two mixed up? Bernini went from Peak Blind to Plan B to ATM Click when they sold blank boards…

He had a pro shoe on Evol (Tony Mag’s precursor to Osiris)

I don’t think Bertino was a dick, according to his CBI interview he got heavily into drugs and all that.

How’d you end up doing sales at ATM?

Basically, I was living in San Diego and was really in a bad way with partying. My Mom had actually become quite worried about me. She was having trouble getting in touch with me, which was intentional. I wasn’t really talking to her or seeing her much because I was in such bad shape. But she knew John Fallahee was nearby so she contacted him and asked if he could find me, to let her know that I was alright.

So they found out where I was living and hunted me down. It was actually Tonan, of all people. Coming completely full circle.

“Ronnie, you need to come with me and John. Right now. Get in the car.”

So I rode over to their place and sat down with them.

“Hey, your Mom is really worried about you. We’re hearing that you’re smoking crack and all this other stuff…”

And at the time, I was. I was fucked up.

“Let me help you out.”

So I jumped on that. I didn’t get sober right away but started easing off the stuff that can really damage you. John gave me a warehouse job, working in the back for a bit and then I started doing sales. That’s just how it bloomed.

There was a point in all this where I thought I could relive the glory days and come out with a part in 2000… a shot in the dark that didn’t work. But it’s cool, I had fun. We did a few trips and I got a couple cool photos. So I was able to relive it again in that sense. But it ultimately made me come to the realization that I needed to grow up and get a job. I couldn’t just be out there doing drugs like I was, I had to get straight.
