Superb.

So in 2020, Trump Impeached, Boris in jail, Brexit cancelled, Andy on nonce wing… Worth an accumulator punt?

Can you add Tories disbanded to that list please? Thanks.

If at least one of those doesn’t happen, it should be an eye opener to how people with considerable wealth in positions of power absolutely are above the law.
Hopefully more so to ordinary folk than those in the wealth and power bracket because if we don’t, they just advertise to eachother that they have free license to do absolutely anything without consequence and they will just do more of it with minus level fucks given.

I just caught myself thinking the new George Michael song is quite good whilst listening to radio 2.

I am now my dad. Jesus.

Mental new Tesla pickup truck

It looks like something made real based on GTA 3 graphics.

The thought of those silently flying around the city at warp speed should put the fear of god into pedestrians everywhere.

It is fucking crazy that the world is producing stuff like that when what we really need is this.

Yeah, can’t wait until every dickhead currently ferrying their kids in an Audi Q7 changes it for a hypersonic electric tank next time their lease is up. I still sort of like it, though. It’s a perfect fit for the 1980s vision of a dystopian future set in 2019 that we appear to have actually realised!

does everyone lease expensive cars these days? it seems like everyone has a BMW, merc or audi except me who buy my car? am i a mug getting it all wrong? is leasing the way forward?

I used to wonder the same thing. Who the fuck is spending £40-50k on cars? Used to think there was a big trick I was missing and everyone had loads more money than me. But the answer is they are all on lease/personal hire and some people are happy to spend £4-500 a month to rent a repmobile that make them feel important.

I got lucky and found a lucrative business I was good at and have now got myself to a position where I could buy any car I want…but ironically I don’t really want flash motors any more and drive a van. I have had expensive cars and you feel a bit of a knob in them most of the time.

Yeah, it seemed to change quite suddenly, not sure when. Company cars seemed to go away and a lot of people do get an allowance instead. But as you say a lot of them are driven by people paying for the lease themselves. It’s crazy some of the motors round here parked outside tiny terraced houses.

If you look at the economics of leasing vs buying a new car it can make sense.

Note that’s a NEW car, not a nearly new or older car.

The depreciation on a new car is really heavy, so unless you negotiate a really good dealer discount you are gonna take a big hit. The hit you take buying is roughly equivalent to the cost of leasing for the same period…so the question is ‘Why tie up your own money in a liability?’. You may as well lease instead of buying a new car. In theory if you had £40k for a new car you could lease instead, invest the balance, and come out on top.

How many people actually do that vs how many just do it to drive a newer car than they could otherwise afford is a different issue!

Of course, whichever way you buy a new car you’re still taking a hit so it’s only really an academic argument. Your best financial option is to buy the cheapest to run or lowest depreciating car you can that will do the job you want it to do.

I think there’s a lot of people now who think that anything over three years old is just going to break down all the time or something. There’s kids at work leasing their first cars through salary sacrifice. The idea of buying an old one doesn’t even seem to be on their radar.
