Had a freakishly realistic dream last night that I could do perfect switch frontside flips.
I’m probably bad enough these days to need to go to beginners sessions at parks. Anyone done the LS10 / Works one on a Monday? Any good?
I haven’t no but all the people who work there are really nice so I’m sure it’d be sound. Are you based in West Yorks?
Thanks. York but work in Leeds.
I know how to do the tricks but my body can’t do them so really just prefer to go when it’s quiet and I’m not taking up space for people that can actually skate well.
That kind of space is for people who ride skateboards and you definitely do that. Just go.
Is it wrong to take an office chair from work ig it has been earmarked for the skip? It only needs new wheels. Which I’ve taken from the chair next to it.
Nope, if anything you’re helping them out, skips are expensive.
Just the answer I wanted to hear!
Some ‘targeted advertising’ from Lloyds. Not sure some bloke with a questionable moustache doing who knows what trick is enough to get me to switch accounts.
I keep getting that one along with that new NHS one with the AI old man skater that’s terrible.
I posted earlier about seeing a celeb in public, this got me thinking so I made a list
I’m not counting musicians I’ve seen walking around at festivals, cos that’s cheating. Also not counting pro skaters at demos or anything like that
There are more, but these are the ones I can remember right now:
Celebs I have seen in public, in no particular order
Mike Peters of The Alarm queueing for a burger at Casey Jones, Euston station
Sally James from Tiswas in Covent Garden
Dustin Hoffman walking along Knightsbridge
Scott Ian coming out of Whole Foods on High St Ken
Bobby Gillespie several times (including at Gillespie Road bus stop)
Keith Lemon shopping for jeans in Uniqlo on Tottenham Court Road
Al Pillay (Comic Strip trans actor) in Primark on Tottenham Court Road
John Hurt, I fell off my board in front of him on Deansgate MCR, he asked if I was ok
Joe Pasquale on the South Bank promenade
Daryl Hannah in LAX
Gordon Kaye (Rene from Allo Allo) on the Albert Dock
Fred the Weathernonce on Oxford Road, Manchester
Steve Davis a couple of times, notably off his face at Glastonbury
Jimmy White holding his trophy near Preston Bus Station
I gave some kid from Eastenders a light in about 2003
Bam Margera in incognito mode at Dev Green one lunchtime for fifteen minutes
Steve Coogan breakfasting outdoors in New York , also in full Alan Partridge mode filimng in London
Subsection: celebs I have served when working in shops
Tricky Dicky from Eastenders
Those two twats from Faithless
Jake Shears
Jarvis Cocker a couple of times
Phil Oakey a couple of times
Edit, just remembered a couple more, both from the mid 80s when I was a nipper:
Big Daddy driving a battered white Ford Escort down the M1
David ‘Kid’ Jensen driving a Roller down Euston Road, numberplate was DJ1
Some good ones there.
Served a few while working at Pizza Hut in the late 90’s - lots of the cast of neighbours and home and away that seemed to be doing Panto around the corner. Phil (receding hairline) was the nicest. Also a few mid ranking snooker players who were at the Barbican playing in tournaments.
Got a peck on the cheek off Cheryl Baker at a theatre opening night.
Tony Blair wandering around a railway museum when he was prime minister. Taller than you think he will be.
Koston walked past me in York once when I was on a hiatus from skating, I did a proper double take and he looked away quickly.
Rad
Just remembered a couple more:
One of the presenters of Countryfile (tall ginger bloke) at a Rolling Stones gig in Hyde Park
Graham Norton having a great time dancing in the crowd (not in a VIP section) at a Kylie/Grace Jones/Chic gig in Hyde Park
Tilda Swinton, also in the crowd with the general public plebs, watching Grace Jones at a different festival (she looked like an alien being)
A few that used to come into my place of work,
Gavin Henson - right bore, fell out with his teammates at Bath, used to order Ribs and then replace all the other sides for a second ribs. Then go to the cinema next door on his own.
Noel Edmunds - permanently unhappy.
Russell Howard - sat writing material a cafe behind us, very polite
Josh Widecombe - sold him a phone that was for his dad. Someone was leaving and was clapped out, he was very confused
Ollie Watkins - used to come into the same place of work as above to spend his pocket money when he was in the Exeter Academy, very polite.
Neil Warnock - same as above, incredibly polite and short.
My mate sold a phone to Caroline Flack who was doing the local panto and said she was very sexually aggressive.
What was hr doing in York if not skating?
Off the top of my head…
The hot Neighbours twins were in town shopping, while doing panto. A few Neighbours and Home and Away sightings out and about.
Hot/emo/goth step mum Sue Pollard was out in a club here one night, Randy and up for it with a younger lad.
Mistook Ray Alan for Bob Holness once too. ‘Can I have a P please Bob?’
Shawnee Smith (TV show Becker and band Fydolla Ho at the time) was drinking in a pub here once and invited us back to the hotel but the rest of the band weren’t into it.
Roy ‘It’s good but it’s not right’ Walker was on the Larne to Stranraer ferry, drove off in a gold Rolls.
Oh hang on, I forgot the worst one,
A former BBC royal correspondent hurled racist abuse down the phone and then came into the store and refused to be served by someone in the account of them being African.
Also introduced themselves on the phone as “yes, the Joe Bloggs”
I told my nan.
I once got the tube and was standing next to Rachel Riley who is disarmingly attractive in real life.
Also had a case of red wine bought for me by the fat one from Blue when I worked in a pub.
Was skating Southbank birdshit banks with Pete King and Dave Chesson early 90s and Gary Wilmott had his picture taken there for a panto.
Ricky from Eastenders CMOAC’d from his E30 BMW cabrio when I was skating outside the Jaguar car dealership in South Woodford. Must’ve been around 1990.
Pathetic compared to some of you, you’re like B-list celebrity magnets
Oh I once heckled Alistair Campbell at a work thing and he said it was so good that he’d send me a signed autobiography (which he did as well, fair play to him).
