Saw your picture of them on the gram and I like that they don’t have the raised heel/thin toe of the Busenitz
New Lost Art/NB shoe is an absolute banger. Not out until Monday but they’re gonna sell fast.
Those axions have nylon lace loops, possibly the most useless and backward invention in skate shoe technology
Second only to full canvas uppers. Those lace loops look fairly high to me so I can’t picture them having too much contact with griptape.
Yeah but fuzz tho
Urgh yeah fuzz. It’s basically protecting your shoelace with…more shoelace. Crap innovation.
The perfect skate shoe was designed a long time ago, but still doesn’t get the credit it deserves.
Ahh, the Airwalk Vic’s. My mate had some all
black suede ones - looked like he had just slipped his feet in to a pair of kittens. Even though they were ‘skate’ shoes, weren’t they a pro shoe for Vic someone or other who was a BMXer?
Edit: The wonders of the internet - it turns out that Vic wasn’t even real, ‘’ the marketing campaign featuring the fictional upper class champion of the sports world, Victor Novettipolae.’’ (From an article in Footwear Plus Mag).
Yeah I had black ones too. They were actually good but the lace saver stitching wore out and got a bit flappy.
I had them first black ones.
Cheers @buildafire, I don’t recall seeing that. It’s fairly clear there that it’s a pisstake, eh? I think maybe I had him down as a BMXer from seeing an ad in Freestylin’ or something. Who knows, it was a long time ago.
The name is Latvian (or something) for ‘new shoes’.
This is from Poweredge, but I think it ran in TWS too. Can’t be bothered checking but Airwalk didn’t usually do different ads for different mags. And I’m sure whoever came up with this one wasn’t there for much longer anyway. Pisstake ads from big companies just weren’t A Thing.
There was the join the Vic club ad I remember. Send some cash and get a t and stickers etc. The one I’m thinking of featured him in front of a graff’d wall, with a bike sort of mugging the camera a bit like those old Mud Machine/ M:Zone ads. (I’m probably mixing up the two things Grandpa Simpson style. It was around then that we wore onions on our belts, it was the style of the time) .
I reckon it was earlier than the one you posted though because those 540s came after Prototypes and those came after Vics (just) . I do also think I was a bit confused at the time in a who is this guy? kind of way. So I think I just let it go and focused on the shoes.
Wanted the black 540’s but ended up with the white purple 620 pyros. And chopped them into a mid with some scissors and gaffer tape which really pissed off mum and dad.
If I remember rightly I cut the lace guard thinger off and then everything in the world got stuck to the exposed Velcro.
That was pretty deep into having them mind, the only shoes I cut down straight from the box were some full cabs (pre half cabs) and then I cut the back of one too low and it kept slipping off.
I was informed I was a ‘fucking idiot’ and a ‘victim’ by my brother.
He had a point.
I had black and grey Airwalk Disasters. Lasted for well over a year and yep, they got cut down haha
I don’t think anyone liked that brand right from the first moment it came about. The ads were interesting in a way but the shoes were just too ridiculous.
I tried my best to forget those. Didn’t they have some bad taste ads with Bucky Lasek looking like he had the plague or something? So out of touch last shot at getting back in to the skate market.
