Giving Mike V a pro shoe in 2021. Enough said.

See the clip on GifterHater where he’s talking about them? Fucking hell.

Also ‘vegan suede’ is another word for ‘plastic’.

He is no longer just plain old Mike V, he is now going by , Cariuma Skateboard Legend’ Mike Vallely.

i used to enjoy gifted haters stuff but he’s coming across as a bit hypocritical to me, fwiw im not a fan of cariuma shoes, their team or business model and i find everything they do to be pretty abhorrent but i also found it funny that gh bagged on that mike v shoe as it reminded him of “dc 10 years ago” trying to do too much tech stuff etc, but then he somehow likes the new ishod shoe which arguably fits into that same tier.

He was talking about the generic tech shit DC were churning out back then, and then talked about how Ishod’s shoe is what a pro shoe should be; something unique that’s actually been designed, that reflects the person.

See also his hatred for Cariuma and love for Last Resort. He has a go at Cariuma’s pricing but not Last Resort’s, despite both being expensive compared to the rest of the market.

This is insane. Do you know the difference in quality between the two? Do you know the budget behind each brand?

A quick Google shows that Cariuma are generally more expensive, despite not using premium materials. I’d guess that Carumba produce a massive amount more shoes than Last Resort too. Last Resort are lovely and it feels like you get what you pay for, Carumia look like something on a TK Maxx sale rail.

I’d be interested to know what level of quality the Cariuma’s are at though, can’t imagine people happily paying £90 for a basic looking shoe that’s not going to last.

The people who buy Cramuia probably don’t go through a lot of shoes, and with their marketing being as fierce as it is, I don’t think quality matters. Children and pensioners will be buying them regardless.

Someone put a clip on IG recently where they were skating a local park in a pair of Cariuma. Didn’t realise they’d made it over here.

There goes my fucking search-history-dignity.

I’ve seen them out in the wild, it’s horrible to see. Kids have a fallen for the marketing it seems.

If you throw enough shit, some will stick.

Someone at my work turned up at a social event in some pink Cariumas.

The fact that they’re not long for the company is unrelated

Yeah, there is a big difference in scale between the two but in my experience both are bad shoes sold at over-inflated prices. I appreciate that there is more legit reasons for that for Last Resort but, in my experience, Last Resort are not especially great quality. Like a £50 Vans shoe, max.

Edit: this is a bit of a half-truth, I have never skated Cariuma.

They’re probably really good (to skate).

But even if they were the best shoes in the world to skate I’d never use them.

They could get Lance Mountain, The Gonz, Ave and Mike Carrol on the team and I’d still not skate in them.
