Shoes

“An exciting new collaboration between Needles and California based skate brand, DC Shoes. Within this capsule are Jog Jackets, Track Pants, Track Hoodys and a Needles re-imagination of the iconic DC Spectre shoe. This take on the DC Shoes classic Spectre features all over accents of the unmistakable Needles purple, they also feature an embroidered papillon on the heel.”

…is one of the worst product blurbs I’ve ever seen. And for a £200 pair of DCs too.

So Needles is kind of a Japanese riff on terrace fashion from the early 90s but at premium prices?
DC really make some odd choices don’t they?

Am I missing something?
Who is this aimed at?

Fucking hell. No item of clothing with a DC logo on it should cost more than about £40 these days. And I say that as a person who used to run a full DC tracksuit with Rick Howards.

I like Needles stuff, but this collab is quite unexpected. I guess it follows in the trail of those designer D3 tributes and stuff like that. There’s a market for it.

I see a few people wearing the needles sweatpants, they have a butterfly embroidered on the pocket, they look a bit girl power. Must be missing somett ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I still have a load of DC apparel, it’s usually of a decent quality, but haven’t bought anything from them in the pas 2 years since they’ve been coasting a wave of cosplay success and rehashing the moonboots of the mid 00s. It seems like they don’t know what direction their brand is pointed.

Evan Smith is fucking amazing but he did not belong on that team, and these things here (and the apparel) are so far from what DC used to mean it’s ridiculous.

When Lucien first wore Lynx I remember going onto the site and the splash page was DC x Star Wars.

Yep, that’s just cringeworthy. They’ve gone down the same route as Vans by depending on skateboarding for heritage / history / brand awareness, but doing daft shit like that.

I want to try those as well, not too easy to come by though.

I’ll tell you what though, his pro shoe is one of the best summer chillers ever. Comfy as fuck, light and breathable, and looks decent.

If you want a chiller, why wouldn’t you look outside of skate brands?

And if you are so much of a skate rat, why would you get DC’s to chill in?

Clearly doesn’t have your swag @hugo. Do you own any moccasins?

This is definitely worth cross examining :+1:

The only chillers I have currently are allbirds which I wear at conferences as they’re plain and comfy.

Also have some handmade Turkish things called Sabahs which is like a leather espadrille for summer.

I have some plain black louboutin opera flats for fancy events which my wife got me.

If you ever want CL shoes again I got a hook up.

What in the Little Lord Fauntleroy is an opera flat?
