As far as I can tell they are currently selling the Accel OG (thats not actually the original), the new still fat but less fat original one, the Accel slim, and the Accel fit which looks like an Accel slim.
Those new ones are slimmer but still aren’t the same, they’ve even kept the stubby toe.
They should study their own ads from the past.

Pretty much that. How many times have they brought this back.
I’ve not thought about the accel in so long.
Used to skate them exclusively trying to be like PJ Ladd back in the day but then something changed in them and they became ‘dodgy’ for want of a better word. Did they change design?
I never tried the slim but my friend had the ones with the clear blue sole and they looked fairly dope from what I can remember. Think I moved onto the Reynolds or Vans old schools.
They’re exactly the same as the original in terms of dimensions.
Measured off of an original and not worked up from a product photo from an old ad.
Doing it that way would be a very bad idea.
The whole Accel line is a total fucking mess which I am doing my best to unravel.
It would be nice to drop certain shoes, but when they sell shitloads you can’t just do that. You have to phase things out by shifting what customers are buying.
(And the Accel Fit looks nothing like the slim! But also…not a fan).

I imagine it’s a case of only having a certain budget and only so much time/budget for sample back and forth. You send the spec to a factory and does not matter how detailed they are there are elements that are just so subjective, so one factories Accel is always different to anothers Accel even though they are working from the same plans and templates. When a shoe comes back it’s probably, "fuck, they’re not exactly right but we have thousands of these.
Sports brands can afford to tweak until right I guess.
I only skate Accel slims now, I can’t pictures me wearing OG’s now because they’ve not managed to recreate properly.

Accel - the one which just came out on Monday. Hasn’t been available for 20 years. Originally released in 1995. Its the one which Penny, PJ, etc. skated.
Accel OG - its the 2005 update to the Accel which is like a pillow/potato (Depending on how kind you are feeling).
In respect of making a shoe - you don’t make thousands if its not right.
The sampling time for a reissue like this when you are transitioning a style (as opposed to just reintroducing something needed right now) is basically as long as you like to get it right.
I used to skate Accel Slims but I think there is something off with the ratios on that thing.

If it’s the '95, I’m intrigued as to what you thought when you saw them? Thoughts on build quality, etc?
I really think its a WAY better shoe and spot on to the original (I’ve sat with the one which got measured and the new release and production is actually solid) and dimension wise, its as wide and bulky as an AF-1…so spot on for 2025.

The ones released this week definitely seem to be much nicer and in photos look like what I think of when I think of the accel.
I have literally just opened up my emails and seen the Accel day email. Didn’t realise this was another iteration. These (initially) actually look good to my eyes.
I have skated accels since they appeared and only have that shape in my mind even though it may have changed over the years. Tongues and toeboxes fluctuated, they even had some kevlar triangle on the side for a bit.
The rereleased ones in recent years just made me question my memory and taste. None of them felt skateable in any way and back then Accel’s were the most skateable shoes I could see.

Right, then you probably should look again. Because it sounds like your gaslighting nightmare is over and the shoe you like is around again.

Not a great photo, but I took this just over a year ago from the sales samples.
Top is Accel OG (2005)
Middle is Accel (1995)
Bottom is Accel Slim (2015 or whatever).
The only thing I will say is that the middle shoe (the good one) is laced super loose, so looks wider than it is there.
The other two are laced tighter.
This is also pretty good, but doesn’t cover all the changes.
