Skateboarding virgin, with no clue

Orite folks?

I’m brand new on this forum because I have no experience on a skateboard but I want to learn.

If anyone can give me any information on what the best beginner board is or what the best way to do it is would be great.

Also, I’m 39 and old, so won’t just bounce up when I fall, odds are I’ll be out for a week if I do.

The end goal is to kick flip by the time I’m 40, so will keep you all up to date if it so happens anyone gives a fuck!

Cheers

If you give us a bit of a physical description of yourself and your budget, we can provide better advice on what kind of setup to get.

Also does anything in particular speak to you, like street or ramps etc

That makes perfect sense. I wouldn’t have thought of that. So thank you.

I’m 6”3 and got quite big shoulders but also I weigh 85kg so I’m not carrying a lot.

And my budget is about £100. Or at least that’s what I’ve set aside for it.

Probably street first, as my goal is just to kick flip. But I also want to be able to do ramps but that’s a long way away I think.

What size feet you got @Gregor

This looks good for a hundred, you’d want something around 8" wide i’d say, personal preference though

Or find a local skateshop and see what they have

If you want to learn youll need to get slightly obsessed. It’s not easy to get good. But just enjoy the basics at first, loosen your trucks, learn a good solid push with the back foot, go fast, get good at turning, cruising around over different surfaces, find an empty carpark… don’t worry about tricks at first. Watch classic ekate videos on YouTube.

Ps kickflip goal is admirable but maybe scale that back to ollie up a curb for your own sanity or you might get disheartened. Still well possible though

I’d personally have a look on Facebook Marketplace for a board if you’re not 100% sure you’ll stick with it.

Welcome! Where do you live? Is there a proper, skater-owned skate shop you can get to? If so pop in and have a chat with them too.

Keep us posted on your progress mate.

Just interested, how come you fancy getting into skating a bit later in life than most do? I wondered what the trigger was, for most of us it was watching Back To The Future when we were like 8 or something.

There’s not, I’m going to have to go online to buy. But I’ll definitely keep you up to date.
Thank you for the support!

That’s brilliant! Thank you.
I’m going to get a fair bit obsessed, as I really want to do it.

No better reason. Post BTTF I rented a ‘70’s Skateboarding book from the local library multiple times. All old stuff like barrel and hippy jumps, monkey grips and hang tens.

Maybe 8.25”.

Branded beginner completes (they’re all the same I think) are fairly decent these days and can be upgraded as you get more experienced. What I started my kids on.

My daughter ended up on Venture forged hollow lows, Swiss bearings and F4 wheels. Then quit :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Yeah like @Mike said 8.25 is about right for size 10s, as long as you aren’t a midget. I’m 5’11" with uk8s and ride an 8.06" but that’s just what I like
