Foy was the obvious choice.
The same two skaters, Tyshawn and Foy, winning SOTY twice each in the last 8 years has got me thinking though, is the pool of potential SOTYers getting smaller?
There have been two other skaters to win in twice, Danny Way and Chris Cole, but that happened in a 19 year span between 1991-2009.
In addition, the average age of those winning SOTY seems to be getting higher. The average age of all SOTY winners is 23.7143, whereas the average age of winners for the past 8 years is 25.25. That might not be a big difference, but also factor in the fact that no one aged 30 plus (so no AVEs or Daewons) has won it in the last 8 years and the average is more interesting.
So my question is, who is aged younger than Foy, so under 28, who could win SOTY in the future?
Yuto obviously. Braden Hoban made this year’s shortlist. Kader maybe if he doesn’t burn out. Who else?

Jaeb is a great shout.
In the 35 years SOTY has ran, there have only been 5 non-US winners. I don’t see Mota changing that, but SOTY will surely have to pull from a more international pool of skaters to reflect the rise of Japan, Brazil, Australia etc.
But then Thrasher’s editors and readership is mostly American, so they might keep selecting US skaters.
Yeah it’s just like the baseball ‘world series’ with every other country giving exactly zero fucks about the most boring game in the world

At least it doesn’t seem to go on for as long as it used to. Shortlist announced, winner declared, and we can all move on. Much less fucking about, as if Thrasher know how boring it is.
Great that Red Bull will probably buy Jamie Foy a yacht or something, but good to know that videos for the next while will not be geared at winning this thing.

Every year there’s threads about who should win SOTY, so it’s clearly still relevant.
I guess they used him for competition hype for the public but they knew they couldn’t give it to him because of backlash. But then again, is everyone weird about Berle or is it just us brits?
