Stoked!

We’re in Barmouth from tomorrow. Hoping the weather improves from what is forecast….

The beach a little further north at Talybont is brilliant.

Have you been to King Arthur’s Labyrinth near Corris? It’s worth a look.

Went with a mate when we were about 8-9 and took our skateboards, saw someone boardslide a bench there which inspired us to stand on our boards instead of kneeling.

If you’re in the area, it’s well worth visiting the waterfalls in Dolgogh. You can drive up, or it’s fun to take the little steam train from Tywyn called Talyllyn.

Nice one - if its been pissing down they’ll be even better haha. Did Devils Bridge many, many years ago. Once place I’d like to walk up to is the reservoir at the top of the Ysgethin river, Bodlyn. Too far for little ones and likely myself nowadays.

Ordered a pair of Grosso SK8 Mids from the Vans website as they were available with 30% off which is rare for classic colourways like black with white sole, got an extra 10% off right before placing my order. Got the shoes yesterday, to my surprise they came with two left insoles. No biggie, I don’t care as I have to wear custom orthotic insoles anyway. Thought I’d email Vans and let them know about this, just in case, somebody from their customer service just rang me and offered a full refund if I sent them the shoes back. Played the let’s-save-the-planet card, told them I’d keep the shoes and would take care of the insole situation, was offered a 15% refund. BANG BANG.

Someone here recently made the good point that most councils like to fill skateparks with too many obstacles to get ‘value for money’ - how’d all that great but empty space get signed off?

I don’t think it’s necessarily like that, because councils will waste money on shelters and random extraneous bumf around the park. It depends if there is a user group consisting of scooter kids wanting helter skelter rails and loop the loops and a few actual skaters wanting a mini and street course. So The designers trying and fit it all in and just add random floor tits in for good measure.

It was intended to be a community type build that would evolve to include new diy stuff. That’s not happening now as it’s pretty hard to sign off diy stuff legally. But there are plans to develop further with council help / other funding

Nice. Yeah I was thinking all it needs is a nice long, low ledge. Maybe a flat bar.

I like this recent east London trend of low impact, accessible skateparks (Finsbury, city mill etc)
