But pre-noses, you could put the back two front truckbolts on upside down and ollie higher. You couldn’t really push, or do anything else, but ollies!
for some odd reason i thought deck width sizes were the board length
Not a good idea with canvas shoes, I discovered very quickly. I inverted the truck bolts but didn’t cut them down enough. First ollie and cut my Hi-Tec/Converse copy canvas shoes to shreds!
Cutting strips of grip tape off the board with a Stanley knife wouldn’t affect the wood underneath . Especially across the deck . Major fail.
I heard that Derby storm had a spine and a vert wall. I don’t think I’d encountered the word vertical too much so thought the spine was called the vert wall and vice versa. Also there was a skater with some mild learning difficulty that used to tell everyone that there was a drop that only me and Bam Margera could do. It was off a 3 story car park, about 50 feet tall.
Thinking it’s lame to ride the pro board of somebody you know. It’s kinda the opposite.
Deeming a tshirt to be too small if the sleeves didn’t come past my elbows.
This, but also wearing a slightly smaller T-shirt over the top of the first T-shirt (which had the word S HORTY S on it).
“It’s not worth keeping all these unskated World Industries boards - they’ll never be worth any money”
haha yeah that technique was so rubbish. so painful on the feet!
Nobody could ever make a living fingerboarding.
What what?
Oh crazy. Never tried to burn a board, assumed they wouldn’t burn well
this must happen at most parks around the country- love it when kids at skateparks will refer to any ramp over 6 foot that is slightly steep as a ‘vert ramp’. Remember being in Newcastle when I was about 15 and a lad talking about how he dropped in the ‘vert wall’ (def no vert wall there) at my local park, I thought he just meant the bowl corner (which was barely 7 foot and def not vert) and he was all ‘woah no man I meant the one down from that, I wouldn’t dare drop the ‘over vert’.
Stupidest thing lots of people believed…
I made a very off the cuff comment in a conversation about Jamie Thomas once, saying that he died trying a gap… This news went around the whole scene very quickly and as it was slightly pre-internet didn’t get de-bunked, so I still had kids asking me about it years later “I thought Jamie Thomas died?!”.
That’s funny. Someone older in our crew joked that Rob Selley doesn’t skate anymore because he got arrested stealing car radios. The joke was that he looks a bit like a G and is from MK.
When we first went to MK he was skating the bus station ledge and was a really nice bloke. Everyone on the way home was like ‘so that was bullshit about Selley and car radios then’.
Kids believe anything haha.
Highly likely that the very same story was true but was about a different MK OG who has been in and out of jail for the last 15 years
Possibly a case of chinese whispers then.
Two that stuck out to me were;
-
‘ABEC 12s’ and Bones Swiss were ‘banned’ because they were too dangerous.
-
Chad Muska skated PADS in Porthcawl and there was a photo of him as you came in. This one did the rounds with me and the slightly older kids in PT. Turned out to be a sack of porky pies.
(although as I got older I discovered that Flo Marfaing did have a cover in Sidewalk at the pavilion, which is cool)
That Neil Blender showed up at Livi once, unannounced, with just a mate taking a couple of photos.
Saw the photos last year.
