Supreme

Suing is such a wet aggression. Sad that a skater has taken it to that. Greed and ego seems to the driving force in this and tarnishes his skating I reckon.

Hmm although it’s not really inline with the skater ethos, Tyshawn has always come across as more of a conventional athlete and less of a standard skate kid and supreme is just a money machine (please let’s not kid ourselves and say it’s a skate shop anymore).
So fuck it, let him rinse them. they exist to create disgusting amounts of profit for people that you will never meet.
Run them dry

It’s America. Litigation is fundamental to the culture.

they were fine with all the LV stuff but drew the line when he done stuff for marc jacobs.
but seems like a good way of getting out of their contract.
LVMH no longer own them and they are now owned by Luxottica.

didn’t Frankie Hill sue Powell?

It’s not cool though. How many cigarettes/spliffs will he have to smoke in edits to redeem cred?
Although, it’s a different world now.

LVMH never owned Supreme. They were bought by VF Corp (owner of Vans and The North Face) in 2020 who sold them to EssilorLuxottica (owner of Ray-Ban, Oakley, Sunglass Hut and Vision Express) last year.

I got the impression Yuto was on LV now and not Supreme. Short lived venture.

Really? I checked and they are still listed as one of his sponsors but the net can be slow to update such stuff (wiki) and there doesn’t seem to be a definitive list anywhere?

I’m basing it on his sponsor list at Tampa this year. Could be very wrong.

Booted after 13 years, completely coincidentally just before Supreme was sold to Luxottica.

Sounds like a weak excuse to cut costs and clean up their books before the sale to me.

Get that money TJ!

Rich person sues rich company. Meh. Tyshawn isn’t some plucky down on his luck underdog and Supreme isn’t some fledgling grass roots company being crushed underfoot by the legal system. Let them get on with it.

I noticed the same thing. Wonder if Yuto was also yeeted before the sale to Luxottica?

Here’s the filing for the Tyshawn case: https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewDocument?docIndex=NQO5SaAHuIrZ1j2uVdCGRQ==

Loads of detail, but it does give a really interesting insight into a top pro’s contract. Looks like Tyshawn could not “directly or indirectly, promote, advertise or endorse, or otherwise wear, use or carry in public, any branded apparel other than Supreme (footwear excluded)" but, before terminating his contract, Supreme should have given him a 30-day period to amend or ‘cure’ his perceived contract breach. I think a lot will depend on whether the court decides that Tyshawn modelling for Marc Jacobs entitled him to this 30-day period or whether this breach was ‘incurable’.

Tyshawn’s contract also had a confidentiality clause, and Tyshawn is alleging that people like James Jebbia told people that Tyshawn had been “kicked off Supreme”. Tyshawn’s arguing that this represented a breach of the contract’s confidentiality clause and that this also represented disparagement, damaging Tyshawn’s reputation in the eyes of “industry insiders”.

Tyshawn is also alleging that Supreme terminated his contract because they needed to shed debt and balance its books ahead of its sale to Luxottica. But Tyshawn also owned stocks in Supreme and is making the argument that, with the termination of his contract, Supreme were able to say Tyshan no longer rode for them and their stocks became less valuable. Again, depriving Tyshawn of money.

I have no legal background or any real understanding of US law, but I reckon Supreme might get away with this. Despite being allowed to model for other brands prior to it, the Jacobs shoot still represents a breach of contract and I’m not sure how you judge whether a breach is ‘cure’-worthy or not. Tyshawn’s other accusations might not matter if his contract was legitimately terminated.

Re Yuto I don’t think supreme Japan is direct supreme and more like a franchise. So him getting a couple of jackets isn’t him ‘on’.

Supreme were paying him $83k A MONTH!?
