This Vans video feels like it purposefully used more low impact/throwaway/off-the-cuff footage of some of the riders. Maybe to help the women shine and be central to the edit?
I guess it depended on the clips the other filmers were prepared to share with Shari White.
Its like some Wall of Sound label wannabe edging into big beat. I think bliueboy is an alias for someone else and this was their chart topping attempt.
Thankfully in the same haul I got two ideantical copies of a Heltah Skeltah 12" to play with aswell.
And I never really got the hang of it.
Isn’t Keepsake filmed over the course of an east coast Canada trip this summer? Hence the name, I guess…but also why the footage would be so mixed, right?
Both the Ace trucks edit and Keepsake had a list of skaters’ names at the end. Titles can sometimes get in the way and distract you from the clip, especially if the skater only has one trick. You’re reading their name and their trick is already gone.
I don’t mind no names, as long as there is a “skaters in order of appearance” in the credits. It makes me go back and rewatch bits to work out who is who which I enjoy!
I think that’s fine, and something like the Huf video had a list of names at the end which worked well especially as they matched it with the song info.
I just think for something like this, which was 3 full sections in an otherwise montage style video (which is a popular approach at the moment), having 3 names on screen wouldn’t have hurt. It didn’t even have a title card!
I disagree - name titles please.
I knock about with tons of younger skaters and none of them have a clue who most new people are (aside from the obvious) these days. Perhaps this is down to the overall level being pretty high these days? Less easy to identify ‘good’ skaters maybe?
Obviously the best skaters are instantly recognisable due to style and uniqueness but there’s a hell of a lot of pretty good sponno’d people nowadays.
Name titles shouldn’t be an aesthetic choice - to me, not having them smells like the editor being more important than the people doing the tricks.
But hey ho - I’m an old Boris
