I read it as meaning ‘it wasn’t all that long ago doing it regular was considered cover-worthy and now someone’s done it switch’. I.e. wow look at the progression. Type thing.
this
so many impeccable and hard switch tricks on really legit street rails. switch crook through a proper kinked rail? switch front feebs on large rails. madness
the Wade part was also so great. he does manual tricks with a really low press. like he keeps the truck in the air really low? so stylish
Wade and Carlos are both past 30 and at the peak of their game.
Skateboarding is a really strange “sport” when it comes to age.
Funny how even as recently as 10 years ago, early 30s would have been seen as career wind down phase for a lot of pros. And now people are 34 and doing their best stuff.
You’re probably right unless you have the absolute best style and can get away with low impact skating. (Which is probably 5 or 6 people in the world).
Ron Allen is our canary in the coal mine . Dude is street skating at 60 and still killing it .
How old was Mariano during his FF comeback part. 32? And everyone thought he was old. Templeton was 31 when his This is Skateboarding part came out and he actually was an older pro at the time (maybe seemed older compared to the team), and he wound down after that. Jerry Hsu was only 34 when his Made Chapter 2 part came out and that was his career ender.
AVE and Koston both had decent to good parts in early 40s. But they’re the outliers
Koston should not be in the same sentence as AVE regarding parts after 40, or regarding anyone putting out good parts after 40.
Reynolds must be getting on and he still kills it.
Things have changed in that regard a fair bit in other sports such as tennis and football as well.
Guy was 36 when Pretty Sweet premiered. So 31 when Fully Flared premiered.
Unfortunately for Jack Olson, he will forever be boring to me. Must be his style. Just doesn’t work for me at all.
Imagine getting that good only to be dismissed that casually
Scary really.
This! Jack is so fucking sick but so forgettable. Harsh but it is what it is
He’s always been so great! That time he had awesome run at Tampa Pro and didn’t win
Enjoyed that Jack Olson part, he’s great. Part of the problem for me and I don’t even watch everything, is that there is so much footage and everyone is so good. The bar is crazy high.
Said to a mate recently that there’s that much footage now everything blends in unless it’s really special. Or stands out in a bad way. I’ll stop waffling and get back in my box…
Liked this part too. Very little b-roll or filler clips. Just loads of really hard, often very tech tricks executed extremely cleanly.
But maybe the lack of a showy personality has hindered him sponsor-wise.
He’s rad, but most of that 3 minutes could have been skipped.
Some of the filming looked it was done by Michael J Fox too.
