The Continually Updated Footage Thread

I quite like a lot of what Yardsale do but this was a terrible idea resulting in probably their most boring video.

Sorry to be harsh, but what were they thinking?
“Let’s go to one of the most heavily hammered tech-lord ledge spots in the world with a bunch of non-ledge skaters and one very average ledge skater.”

There are good skaters on Yardsale. This just made them look worse than their abilities allow.

Odd.

Wow harsh. I liked it and I enjoy their sulky emo vibe. The kids are mad for Yardsale.

Not a diss - Another random skater I’ve never heard of killing it (kicker to bin line was Westgatesque) and I expect to see charge in the next killer Vans EU edit. Also Fred Mortagne is still a boss in the editing booth.

Posted this in the documentary thread, but thought this could sit here too?

Here’s the trailer for my documentary about Jamie Clapp, my friend who died.

I felt like it was a constructive response rather than just harsh.
Although opening line might be.

I dunno…I feel like this is the equivalent of going to The Chain to flip into it after Tom Penny had his 15 mins there.

You aren’t going to look strong, so just flip into something else.

They aren’t a bunch of next level ledge skaters or have some wildly unique take, so Stalin probably isn’t the place to put together a single spot part and come off looking pro as fuck.

Nice brand. Alex and Bear usually look so great. Misfire video idea tho. Made them look less than they should.

I wouldn’t have watched the video at all if it hadn’t been for your comment.

It did have the feeling of ‘the good crew from your town go to a famous spot.’ But I’m not a fan of the brand at all tbf, so they were never going to impress

Was this not just a quick edit from one trip though? Yardsale are usually pretty good at spending time hunting spots and making ‘proper’ full lengths. In the context of the brand, this seemed like more throwaway stuff or a whatever edit. Not sure it merits being judged that deeply.

Has that first spot been in other videos? I know the one in Austria has been shredded.

Yes, the Hague is waiting for Putin!

I agree on all of your sentences (Except the last one. It’s skateboarding. And a forum. Everything gets judged). but those sentences surely prove my point that this was boring and din’t make them look as good as they are, no?

It’s “good crew from your town go to a famous spot” as @BvS put it. But this is a couple of pros. Not just your local hero.

I think that there are a lot of smart pros out there who play the game really well. They might not be the best skaters but they know how to bring their talents and present them uniquely.
Yardsale are a brand who have done this very well…but it’s things like this which let the mask slip, if that makes sense.

Yeah, I don’t disagree. This sort of exposed that some of them don’t really know how to put lines together or that they can get that tech.

But does a brand always have to put out top tier stuff? It’s always nice seeing those short Crailtap edits that are clearly throwaway from a session or weekend trip. This felt more like that. It was nice to see the spot and people moving through it.

Was going to make a point about whether we should judge all brands according to the same criteria. In my mind, Yardsale are one of those post-Palace bedroom streetwear/skate brands that managed to stick around and become more legit. Of course this edit is going to feel like a local crew going to a famous spot, because that’s essentially what the company is based around (bar newer additions like Thaynan). Then I checked their Instagram - 112k followers which is way more than most UK board companies. So maybe they have reached some sort of level where deeper scrutiny is warranted.

I’d argue that those short crailtap edits are top tier curation. And also, clearly indicated as a weekend session. When you get both of those right, you get something special.
Whereas this YS video was put across as a whole piece. Not a weekender or throwaway.

But yeah…rest of what you say is definitely fair game. It’s all subjective…By and large, I agree with you.

Whilst I agree, aren’t most short Yardsale videos pretty much just lookbooks anyway?
If so, then this achieves its purpose plus I’m guessing (perhaps incorrectly) that a huge proportion of the people who buy YS don’t know or care about Stalin/Letna’s history really.

This was a nice surprise.

Thought it was sick to be honest. Mach 10 fs nose blunt slide by Zach Smith, can’t fuck with that. I thought the Kelvinas Litvinas footage was really good too and Alex Hatfield is always sick. Good video.

It was really sick. Bit more than a lookbook lol.

I thought the same.

We need to score this edit on the Tony Hawk Pro Skater scale and send those numbers to Yardsale to reflect on.

Yeah it wasn’t a diss. There’s some good shit in there. My comment was in response to @Londonskater really
