I had the exact same thoughts and feelings!
So what is Lakai now?
Vanillia influencer shoe.
Or out of business in 6 months.
So none rides for them anymore?
If I was a former owner, I couldn’t stand by and watch something you poured yourself into for so long just disintergrate into something that will absolutely tar it’s legacy.
But I guess the money from selling helped them let go maybe?
The money from the sale for sure plus it sounds like a bankruptcy waiting to happen by just throwing more money at it. The smart thing is to just accept that it’s done and over, no matter how hard it is than letting sentiment and pride get in the way.
Whaaaaat is as if you’re equating Cariuma to Lakai as a sideways move. Legacy alone Lakai deserve more respect than that
Does it now?
I think so, at least give them credit for what they have achieved and who they are and their legacy?
I know you and Builda are pretty harsh on crailtap and skater owned shoes and you have fixations on the most popular sports brands, that’s cool, each to their own.
Sometimes you say harsh things, almost wishing the failure of certain people, which comes across a bit odd.
Yer fair comment about legacy.
I just think Crailtap completely blew it, and Lakai have made shit shoes for a longtime. Just because its Skater Owned doesn’t mean I have to like it, or say its great.
Not saying that. Just when you constantly say things like “Oh they’re still in business?” etc. I don’t think they ever blew it, just stuck to their guns and slowly became less relevant to the market. That’s because young skaters like people they can relate to and with all the big names moving on they just tried to carry on with their ethos. Same with zero but when new things come you either adapt and get shit thrown at you for conforming or you stick to what you know and get shit thrown at you for becoming stale. It’s a no win situ in the skate world.
All good though man.
Bet MJ isnt sheding any tears.
Wonder if Bastien ever regrets stepping away from skateboarding when he did, given he was unstoppable at one point. If he’d foreseen he’d be flogging his cab flips for the highest bidder 15 years later he might have ridden his wave a bit longer.
Read that back, it sounds a bit harsh. I loved his skating bitd, but his comeback career has been pretty lacklustre
From the little I know about it, I don’t think he had much choice in it.
Enjoyed that - spots & vibes on point.
& yeah, Gibraltar is intriguing - got loads of photos taken by my grandad when he was stationed there after WW2
Do people think that’s Biebel?! It doesn’t look or sound like him, apart from being an overly tanned and toned meathead.
