About 4 or 5 years ago I wrote a book about some of the most important skate videos over a 25 year period that correlated with the rise and demise of this medium. By skate video I am referring to the physical object not streams. For each year, I tried to choose a couple of videos that really stood out to me and hopefully others, but of course I couldn’t list absolutely everything. I also added a handful of rarer videos that merit recognition, a few terrible skate videos and a brief chapter on music in skate videos. Someone else can write that book.
I tried multiple avenues to get the book published but nothing panned out. The world keeps turning, new evidence keeps appearing, I don’t expect to make any money off this project, and to be honest a real book about skate videos doesn’t exist, which is kind of crazy considering the importance of the medium for the culture and industry (and books already exist about just about everything else skate related) but I’m sure someone else will do something at some point, so I’ve published the entire thing as a website.
If you are interested in checking it out, the link is below. Please read the disclaimer because it explains a bit more about the book. The opinions in the book are my own and all the facts mentioned are referenced with the exception of maybe two which I clearly flag as hearsay.
Enough babbling. I hope you guys enjoy it.
