I don’t know if I can stomach this one. I’m sure Coogan will give a good performance, but it feels too grim and bleak.

Yeah don’t really feel the need to watch this one.

Repulsive viewing - halfway through ep2.

I’m worried it’ll be too soft and not give us all the info. There has to be a web of people out there still working that are tied to him someway or another that will keep the whole story under wraps for a good while yet.
I still find it interesting how something like this can even happen so i’ll watch it but fully expect to be distraught afterwards.

Started watching it and stopped, it was just really off, are you supposed to enjoy it as entertainment? It was weird watching it being dramatised. Obviously there’s other dramatic stuff about serial killers like Dahmer but this felt weirder.

Acting was good but not really interested to find out more about how fucked up he was and see it played out dramatically,

I think it’s the fact that he ‘got away with it’ while laughing at the public and being protected by people in power, to live a life of privilege that makes the viewing more uncomfortable and frustrating, than it being an abuser/killer that got caught and had to face their public downfall and pay for their crimes.

Watched the first episode with my missus last night and she spent most of the time calling out people around him for turning a blind eye. I agree, not sure who this was made for, it seems almost voyeuristic to watch the shit he got up to in a drama setting. Probably worse because it started with him being painted as a national treasure and in the end, he never paid for anything, at least serial killers in these things get their comeuppance eventually.

It’s also been pointed out that the BBC putting this out is like Harold Shipman offering a first aid course for pensioners

Got to say though, Coogan is very good

A mate of mine was in and out of Stoke Mandeville as a child for a while. The nurses there told him to always pretend to be asleep when JS came to visit.

There’s no way I’m watching this.

I only knew of him from Jim’l Fix it and my dad helped me write in to fix something, can’t remember what it was, probably to meet the power rangers or some shit.

But yeah he was an easily identifiable public figure for AGES. Crazy.

Wonder how many of them are still out there.

I wrote to the Michael Fabricant, wanted to be a stuntman for the day

Half way through it. Obviously a fucking horrible subject but Coogan is amazing in it.

I watched the first one and enjoyed it. I love the set design and there was hardly a moment where I didn’t 100% believe Coogan was Jimmy Savile.

I hope they allude to some of his connections being responsible for protecting him and get a bit of conspiracy theory stuff going…but maybe that would be a step too far for the Beeb?

My wife told me she wrote to Jimmy Savile asking if he could fix it for her to meet Michael Jackson.

I’ve heard stories of him being some kind of grand wizard in some secret society… Then again he was basically that in full view before you even need to consider any conspiracies. The fact he was our current king’s bezzie for many years is just crazy. He was practically magic as far as I was concerned as a kid, accusing him would be (a bit) like accusing father christmas.

It seems really well done as far as I’ve seen, interesting that they included a scene with him DJing on 2 decks as he claimed to have invented that. Will be interesting to see how the whole thing pans out and if it’s really justified. It’s so grim I couldn’t sit comfortably, what a horrible bastard. I wonder if the stuff about his mum never liking him was accurate.

Lost me at “cross dimentional” in the intro but I’ll stick with it

I watched it maybe 10 years ago and haven’t seen it or paid it any mind since, well, not until I saw your post.

If you can go along with ‘wizard’ I’m sure interdimensionality shouldn’t be too much of a leap to take.

I got half way through I’ll come back to it.

Sceptical of a lot of it but the clips and quotes are just too weird. The bit where he says he knows who the boss is, and points down…

I suppose the difference is whether magic or dark arts work on the human psyche, not actual dimensions etc. But I know you’re just linking this you didn’t make it! I reckon it’s definitely possible that stuff was going on in that ‘realm’
