The TV Thread

For me it’s the chapter in The Stand describing everyone dying everywhere, and the army going psycho and executing everyone.

just reading the Stand for the first time now and i’ve just finished that bit. campus students being mowed down. executions broadcast live on TV. i’m soooo glad i didn’t read this in the covid years

That’s when I first read it haha

Oh, I had no idea there was a new one out. Sweet. Gonna watch that tomorrow.

Watched Black Doves this week, loved the Welsh triggerwoman, her accent and slang were fantastic.

Yeah Black Doves was really good, was super into it. Also really excited for third season of Yellowjackets if anyones been on that.

Hells yes!

Never heard about that, will check it out, ta.

just finished Patience on Channel 4. Proof you don’t need to wrap up a story to fit it in to an hour long episode if the scene where the titular character goes to a pub is more important

For anyone not heard of this, and I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t, the good looking blonde is autistic so the police use this superpower to their advantage to solve cases while most ego-centric characters shout at her and freak her the fuck out constantly. The main police woman (her out of breaking bad) treats her like her pet while holding zero authority over the people in her team

I’ve watched two episodes of The Day Of The Jackal and it’s laugh out loud bad.

The writing…Jesus wept. the acting…wow. terrrrrrrrrrrrible.

In its favour the music (including the theme) is good and it looks quite good. That’s about it.

Well, I really liked Day of the Jackal.

Soz.

Just finished watching Mr & Mrs Smith.
Quite good fun…

Lead guy in Day of the Jackal looks exactly like Dom Henry

Ditto. Can’t please everyone. Redmayne was really good in it (and everything in general)

I really liked it, it was some nicely done daft gnarliness.

… however I thought the music was shite. The theme sounded like my aged cat singing Adele in the fog.

You guys making it impossible to take any recommendations form the forum.
I always need recommendations as I don’t watch much TV

I just finished Black Doves, I tried to pace it but ended up binging over a few nights. I really enjoyed it, it does require a certain level of suspension of disbelief, but it’s fun enough that it doesn’t matter, it’s just cool spies doing cool spy stuff.

If you liked Jackal, you’ll probably like this. Maybe not one for Les though.

I think a level of disbelief is standard unless you are watching documentaries. In which case, you want to be stuck firmly in reality whilst the documentary pulls you into disbelief.

Black Doves was good fun. so was Day of the Jackal.

But neither are close to Slow Horses.

Enjoyed Day of the Jackal. Wasn’t amazing but was alright. Thought Black Doves started well and then got quite dumb. Secret underground crime family that controls all of London and even parts of America? Yeah right!

As @Londonskater says, neither are anywhere near Slow Horses!

Great description, had to fast forward past that every episode.

Disney getting it right for once , this looks sick! Glad it’s the same cast .

Rad. I’ve been looking forward to that, but was a bit scared that Disney would tone down the violence compared to the (really quite adult) Netflix show. But that trailer is packed with gnarly bone snapping and face crunching, looks like they’ve levelled up. Jolly good.
