My cat is 20 and has never killed anything bigger than a spider in her life. She brought a mouse home once, but I’m pretty sure she found it dying nearby and just thought she’d cash in on the situation. I just now mentioned that article^^ to her and she gave me a look that said “oh, please shut up”

If she bought one home once, she’s probably offed one or two tbh. Maybe she just doesn’t want to offend you. They’re different creatures when they’re outside.
Got to be honest that despite always having had cats I have some sympathy with this. Honestly I would prefer it if they were less successful hunters (apart from when keeping vermin under control). But the way I look at it cats are just another animal that have managed to find their niche in amongst the wildlife deserts of towns and cities. In their case by manipulating humans.
Nah, you’re underestimating just how lazy and lame my cat has been all her life. She’s never been past our fence/boundary, and has never even seemed curious about it. (This is a reply to Bacon by the way)

Haha I’d just be very very surprised if she had done it. She’s never shown any hunting/killing instinct. She’ll play with rubber bands - and get really angry with them too - but present her with a live creature, like a spider for instance, and she’ll just watch it up close for a while, then walk away. A toy mouse holds no interest unless it’s stuffed with catnip.
She sits near the bird feeders, watching birds and napping. The birds have got used to this and just ignore her, happily eating and chilling. Occasionally a magpie will threaten her and she’ll come back inside. Like I said, she’s no killer.
Edit: just now reading all this back… She likes lazily watching birds in the garden while under the influence of catnip, and doesn’t bother leaving the property boundary unless absolutely forced to? I wonder where she gets it from

this lazy one has only ever brought in birds already in late stages of decomposition.
He’s a master thief of food from strangers houses (has been caught ambling into a neighbours kitchen and stealing a freshly made sandwich), but I think living creatures are just too much effort for him

We had a cat like this. We had 2 at the time, one of them we still have who now predominantly lives outdoors. So one of them brought a live mouse in, she drops it and starts playing with it etc. The other cat didn’t have a clue what was going on or what to do. Eventually we re homed here because she was super anxious and would always hide, so we found some a home where she would be the only cat and no children.

Fatcat is/was a prolific hunter. He’s slowed down a bit in his old age but hunted for food. Vet told us he was overweight so we put him on a diet and his solution was to catch woodpigeons and half eat them on the doorstep every night until we got bored of clearing up eviscerated skyrats every day and just gave him his cat food again
