Point made

Slow respose here, sorry.

So, I get what you’re saying about privilige. More and more these days, we’re seeing musicians who make it on the indie/6 Music scene coming from wealthy families who can afford to supplement their incomes for a couple of years while the musician does the industry schmoozing in order to get that lucrative deal. Laura Marling and Florence Welch (and the Machine) are two I’d think of here.

This is even more prevalent with unpaid internships in the creative industries, and more insidiously in politics, which effectively keeps the kids from poorer backgrounds out as they obviously can’t afford to work for free. No matter how skilled you are, you still need that foot in the door to get the entry level job. Plus, if you’re from a monied, connected family, then of course you’ll be in a position to network that bit more effectively and get hooked up. Ok, so the standard is now lower for everybody and it’s harder to withhold and hoard the knowledge, but yeah, as you said, if you can’t afford to be able to do that work, then you’re looking in other industries for different careers.
