Twitching/nature sort of thread

Pulling this one out of the Pointless Topics thread (for easier muting?).

First two minutes of Merlin use, just outside my back door.

Common Woodpigeon.
Collared Dove.
House Sparrow.
House Martin.
Blackbird.
Chiffchaff.

Also picked up Mallard (technically wrong cos it’s a lady duck) but failed to register a cockerel crowing directly into my phone. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The usual suspects

90+% of bird noises are sparrows and blackbirds shouting at each other.

My son has got well into this. We’re going on loads of little adventures in the woods after school most days.

Yeah free download,

Ok on it, love the birds wahayyyy

If your locale is anything like it is round here, you’ll get sick of chiffchaffs pretty quick. I didn’t even know what they were before getting Merlin, now I just hear them all the time. Bane of my bloody life they are. Shut the FUCK up chiffchaffs.

Saw a heron two days ago, will upload the pic later. It was about a metre or two away from me on the canal towpath.

You guys wanna see birds get to ruddy Norfolk we had Beeeaters here last summer. Fuppin’ everywhere they are the beautiful little bastards.

I’m off up the coast this weekend to perv on oystercatchers, curlews, tern and whatever else i can get away with.

Non bird related but seen an Otter about 10 mins from where i’m living.

Love it.

Well kinda, but anyway
Seeing as we’re all into using Merlin, get on ObsIdentify, it’s another rad free app, take a pic of a plant or a creature and it’ll identify what it is
Edit: I also use Picture This a lot, it identifies plants from a pic and tells you whether they’re healthy or not, how to care for them etc

Always have these bad boys hovering over my house and garden.

We get loads of birds pottering about in the garden. I think where the dog keeps cats away and he’s not fussed by birds, over time the birds trust the garden and often will land around us.

One of the best things about my cold plunge is watching the birds all year round.

If it makes any difference, I actually went for a skate shortly after kicking this off.

I tried the Merlin app at work and in my garden and all I ever get is house sparrows, which makes no sense as I live about 1 kilometer away from one of the biggest nature reserves in the country where 75 different species of birds live all year long.
