UK SOTY 2023 - nominations thread

Still trip out on his 180 fakie manny over the brown bar.

Yo @Gconroy just seen this, I have had a good amount of conventional sponsors over the years dude, they have just gone under or I left them.

Never been into cool guy status though, not about that shit. Rather skate with everyone and get on.

Thanks for the compliment though, nice of you boss :facepunch:t2:

Sweet @Regan, all the best!

Whatever happened to the Rock City indoor in Hull? Has the skate bit been removed?

Cheers dude :facepunch:t2:

Owner is a businessman and shut it down again.

Also cheers! Seems to be taken well so far, people stoked again.

Something I would love to have done in Oxford, as there was a shop after SS20 shut but it was a bit weird, and my mate tried on Cowley Road again, but didn’t pick the greatest unit to make the tattoo studio work within it.

Hope it works out, and having a shop will do wonders for the scene.

Ah that sucks. Has it been ripped out, or is it still there but closed?

Yeah just used as warehouse space now for Rock climbing I heard.

Have a go man? just got to do it different with things being more online now.

The rent is only £100 per month as it isn’t in town or the foot fall, which to be fair has killed all the other shops in Hull, so didn’t want to follow that business model.

With that being said, I’m running it slightly different than the usual 9-5 shop, opening on an evening when people can actually get there after work, college & school etc.

I’m in the building where it is based Mon-Sat working doing other stuff anyway, so I’m offering a Click & Collect or delivery service if people want to grab anything during the day.

Seems to be going well so far :+1:t2:

That’s the big bit. I mean in oxford you won’t even get a car park space a month for £100 :joy:

Do people have to drive out to it?

Hmm maybe if you try it look for a building with a few things going on, this one where the shop is based is like a hub / collective.

Bands play there, woodwork shop, Martial arts, Games studio etc. so there is plenty of people in and out.

I’d say it’s a 2-3 min drive from town and it is on the way into town too, 10 min skate and 20 min walk from the centre.

Don’t forget you can barter on your rent as well. My Mrs shop opened in October and a friend of hers gave us loads of useful tips. We knocked £150-£200 off the rent per month for the first year then second year it goes up and third year it goes to what it was originally marketed at. We’ve got 3 floors so bottom is retail, second we’re going to turn into more of a art hub/creative space with art supplies on sale

Yer maybe it’s more like I could never get accounts that I would want in my shop these days haha

If there is no other store where you are, you should be sound right?

Best of luck with the shop Regan, hope it works out for you!

Cheers Ciaran, appreciate it.

I just hope it works out for Hull & East Yorkshire more than anything, it needs it.

Will do my best to keep it going though, that is why I’ve done it where it is, and the way it’s ran.

Hopefully will do some good for the scene.

I’d want shoes.

Ha ha fair one, well maybe start small and see how it goes, in time you may get those accounts?
