Some random info - before politics, Vladimir Zelenskiy was a writer and comedian who seemed to do pretty well off the back of a political/satirical show he starred in and co-produced 6 years ago, Servant of the People, where he played president of Ukraine. It brought him to wider fame in Ukraine, leading to calls for him to enter politics, which he did with the help of his writing staff from his show, and then he won the elections in 2020.

Looking ahead, I’m really worried that US, EU and the RotW will sit on their hands and not do enough. The collective Ukrainian courage and outtright defiance against Putin’s belligerance gets all my respect and second-hand pride, and they will win hearts and create unity against the Russian government, but all I can see is Putin sending endless wave of Russian pawns to the war front, none of whom want to be there, to prolong and exhaust the Ukrainian defense.
Yes, I’m well aware that Ukraine is neither NATO nor EU, but nobody wants or needs the 2nd largest country in Europe, a population of 44 million, to be the buffer between us and Putin. Or that this conflict has the capacity to go nuclear (even if it’s “just” tactical nukes), which would obviously be nothing short of a clusterfuck.

We’re such an international beacon of cuntery. I’ve though the Home Secretary/Office were utterly shameless for a long time but they just continue to prove themselves to be worse than I thought at every possible opportunity.

I’m with you there and I don’t think this worry is being voiced enough, the talk is all about tougher sanctions and increasing outrage or solidarity with Ukraine but Russia have clearly prepared for all this and war gamed it all out in advance.
I wouldn’t want war either of course but at this rate the sanctions will hit us just as hard as they would Russia.
Depressing stuff.

I pretty sure I’ve heard Russia have about 10 days left to get Ukraine under it’s control or they’ve fucked it. As the invading country they will have planned for so many days to get their plan into place, then they can send for reinforcements. It’s much harder to get them in with a full blown war going on.
Glad to see Germany are now giving the Ukraine weapons along with everyone else.
Of course Russia have a far superior number of soldiers and fire power but it sounds like some of the Russian soldiers hearts aren’t in it and don’t want to fight.
Could you imagine if by miracles of all miracles the Ukraine manage to keep fighting and Russia had to start withdrawing soon, oof!

I think the fact the’ve had to make a statement and show some kind of (meaningless) action says a lot. Chelsea are fucked, gone if Abramovich asks for his billion back that he’s put into the club. If forced out.
