US going on like they’re aren’t the only country to ever require NATO to mobilise…
all this posturing from Russia about “NATO started this war by making steps towards Ukrainian membership” yet they didn’t do a thing when Finland joined
if we (Europe) are no longer allies with the US what happens to all the military bases here and on the continent? I’ve got 2 US bases near me and i’d rather they go away frankly. also if we’re truly no longer close to them then it allows us to pursue other best friends with less awful Governments like North Korea and China
(i’m not voting in your poll Mark. i want everyone to get along and it’s just depressing)
When did Russia stop being the bad guys in the eyes of the US? For most, if not all, of the 20th century it was US vs Russia and most Republicans would have seen Russia as a commie threat - and yet there’s now Republicans in their 60s and 70s supporting them
You’ve got to think Trump and Putin agreed this plan a few months ago in return for helping Trump get back in. It’s not ‘new’ it’s just an existing arrangement being revealed at the right time.
i’m generally not disposed to conspiracy theories but i’m fairly certain at this point that musk and russia colluded to help trump win in one way or another. whether via mass manipulation of media online (of which there is much evidence) or via manipulation of the election process itself i don’t know but the landslide win seemed odd at the time and seems even weirder now
Is this the New World Order that gets mentioned? US/China/Russia agree to stop wasting money and resources bickering with each other and defending or involving the smaller countries, who are left trying to find a new sugar daddy?
I guess it’s been over 80 years since WW2 and there are hardly any vets left now so it’s easier for Trump to just shrug and move on from the alliance. He doesn’t actually give a fuck about any country, including America, it’s all self interests and ego at this point so he has no problem being pragmatic with previous sworn enemies.
I don’t know, I think mass election fraud would flag up in America. Biden was seen as a weak president and Kamala wasn’t the strongest candidate to have standing against him. Most people just wanted cheaper shopping and petrol prices, got caught up in immigration lies (like here) and identity politics too.
Russia gets Ukraine and the rest of the world is forced to accept and move on. Is the short version, long term who knows what that means. There is so much going on in the background we’ve probably not even considered yet.
Trump has always said that we wants to be president for as long as he can, even of that means changing the constitution. You have to think this where he is pushing. Aligning himself with countries like China and Russia. Already calling himself King Trump, as that’s what Americans still think happens with royals, being in charge and passing the power down through his bloodline, in his crazy world.
Trump is going into every situation like a ruthless business deal. Hardball, bullying and ultimatums. It does make me wonder what would happen if someone calls his bluff.
America are not as strong as they think and they give it the big-un so everyone else thinks that they are this mass power. Unfortunately they do seem like the kind of power that will press the button in order to maintain their position, moreso than ever now. They’ll never, ever want to seem weak.
Here’s a question to ponder for the future of Ukraine:
If a ceasefire is declared, and some form of agreement is put in place for Ukraine to return to the neutral buffer zone between Russia and Nato allied countries, will the Ukrainian government open it’s borders to it’s male citizens once again? If they do, how many men between the ages of 16 - 60 do you think will stay? If I had that meat grinder of a war held over my head, like the sword of fucking Damocles, and the very real possibility of it kicking off once again should the situation change, I would be out as soon as humanly possible. If I was a mother with sons, I would be telling them to get out. The future is not looking bright even if there’s an uneasy peace.
This is where I lean as well. I don’t think it was overt election meddling, but I do think public discourse and the general online world have been lurching rightwards for several years now and this has been a deliberate, longterm ploy of Russia to destabilise Western democracies. eg. Funding Tim Pool - they’re doing that sort of thing on a mammoth scale and it is cutting through.
I also still believe Putin has some hold/dirt on Trump beyond just helping him win the election. Maybe not the vaunted Moscow pee-pee tape, but some nefarious connection. Maybe Trump just wants access to Russian resources, but it seems insane that Trump would cosy-up to the Russian leader when his MAGA base are notoriously anti-communist. I know Putin is post-Soviet, but it just doesn’t add up to me.
his MAGA base don’t stand for anything that isn’t dictated by him. if he told them tomorrow that immigration would own the libs they’d be all for it. they clearly aren’t anti-communist because they’re currently super pro-Putin, pro-Russia etc.
It’ll all be funny until Alaska gets invaded by Russia, they already think it’s theirs so why not take that back too if the Orange Russian Asset is willing to give shit away.
Im starting to wonder just how long it’ll be before that fat fuck “falls” from an open window or drinks the wrong cup of tea
