I think everyone was giving the US a break and expecting some sense of order to be restored. This has shown there is a huge number of people that still support Trump some even in counties with large numbers of covid deaths. It isn’t over yet but wtf.

I think the numbers go up when a few key news agencies decide it’s safe to make a projection based on votes counted and remaining so it just depends who BBC/Guardian etc. are relying on so e.g.
“The Associated Press has joined Fox News in projecting Arizona for Biden. We at ABC News have not yet issued a projection, but it’s worth noting Biden does lead Trump 52 percent to 47 percent there, with 82 percent of the expected vote in.”
