Had a PS5 and switched for Xbox Series X because the gamepass crosses over to PC and most my mates were on Xbox to make in game chatting easier

Performance don’t notice. Prefer the UX of the Xbox though

I’ve got a Series S, and it cost me £250 brand new in 2021. Brand new versions now cost £429, and it’s a 6 year old console!
The Series S is a great little console but you can really notice the difference compared to the higher end specs of the X/PS5. Depends on your budget though, as the Series X/ PS5 is like £600 new. Maybe find a refurbished one?
HD size is also a factor. I can only fit like 2 games on the series s at once. It also doesn’t have a disc drive and caps out at 1440p, so no 4k gaming. If you can find one for £200 or so go for it, but I’m not sure brand new full price is worth the cost in 2026.
Benefit of Xbox used to be game pass but they’ve upped the price of that these days as well.

PS5, there is a huge reason why it has outsold the Xbox
I don’t think you need a pro one, I don’t have it and I play every day at some point.

I also want to play the Final Fantasy VII remakes which I guess are only on Playstation…(?).
I don’t think I can not play this when it launches really so need to get it all sorted ahead of November.

Yes you get all of MSG and pretty sure Final Fantasy is a PlayStation exclusive.
I had Xbox’s before the PS5 and glad I swapped across.
It was a timed exclusive

It’s gone 1am but i couldn’t stop in the run up to this.
Got to end of the last dungeon of FFIX in 11 hours 43 mins.
You have to get to this point in under 12 hours to get this sword, so I only had 15 minutes to spare.
I’ve only ever read about this before. I didn’t think I would ever ever try it myself.
Warning: trying this takes a looong fucking time. Been chipping away at it for weeks, doing it room by room. You will spend hours mashing the x and square buttons and you have to get shop and inventory menus right for hours and hours.
If you make a mistake and accidentally buy or sell the wrong thing by mistake you can be fucked a few hours down the line. You have to practice doing the menus to get it as fast as possible. It’s very very fiddly.
It was not fun. I wouldn’t particularly recommend trying this, but I am stoked that I’m a big fucking nerd and I did achieve it.

Nice. Still got my NTSC copy of IX in the loft.
Getting a bit concerned I’m going to pull my game collection down and the disks will be knackered after the more recent years of extreme heat. Not to mention the consoles.

Nah it’s not ‘hard’ per se…it’s just really really boring because you have to follow a guide to the letter. If you deviate from the set path you are fucked.
I got my save file onto my tablet so I could use that with my bluetooth controller which made things slightly more enjoyable. Did up to the end of disc 3 on my phone which was a pain in the arse.
I still have to complete the game I guess so it’s not quite over. The last three battles at these levels are going to be tough.
You basically have to have the NTSC version if you want to do it on a proper ps1. For PAL you would need to do it in 10 real life hours because the game runs slower.
At least with a real PS1 you can open the disc drive to skip cutscenes.
You will have a long grind trying to impress the 100 nobles at the very start if the game.
That’s the only bit that is very, very hard because you have to input perfect button presses for 1 minute straight with no save point right before it.
I never understood the card game in that one. Probably couldn’t figure it out now either.
I finished it and cannot remember a thing except Zidan touching Garnets arse when climbing the ladder into the airship and saying ‘hmm…soft’ or something. Knocking on 30 years ago and prime weed smoking years

Oh yeah you also have to win the card game tournament in disc 3 to win the rebirth ring.
I’m tempted to go back and play it from the start and get to actually read the text to see wtf is going on
