Baker Has A Deathwish 2

GH seemed like he was trying to say things that were a bit controversial because he’s got a reputation to live up to there. He’s also very much a kid in a glass house in terms of aesthetic criticism imo.

Having sponsorship and making money from being a vocal critic of the industry he is a part of is a massive conflict of interests unfortunately for him. It makes some of the things he says hypocritical, that’s the position he has put himself in. Are the things he won’t say because of his sponsorships?

It’s also to easy to turn around and compare his ‘hooked up, sponsorship worthy parts’ to one he is bashing and dismiss him now, if he is talking shit on someone’s part but he’s doing worse things in his, ect… it’s a bit embarrassing. I have to rewatch the part he put out but I remember a few illegal tricks.

You gotta remember that you can find things funny even if you don’t agree with them. 90% of the shit GH talked on Knox wasn’t what I think but I found 100% of it hilarious.

When someone does kickflip-kickflip-kickflip at that spot, then we’re cooking. Especially if the middle kickflip is all unpopped and hurried. Reverts and shuv-its are just a bit whatever to me. It’s impressive he managed to fit the middle trick in though.

And yes, I have never been to that spot. Those London road gaps all look the same to me, it’s hard to keep track of which one is which. For example, is the one that Scott Palmer nollie bs heeled in WTFW now long out of action? Because this looks the same to me.

In his streams he often talks about how he wouldn’t be hooked up by Sci-Fi and get flowed Last Resort if it wasn’t for his internet presence. He’s fully aware of his skill level compared to the pros he ‘roasts’.

The last person he really rinsed before Knox was Robert Neal and he hit back saying he was going to knock Joa out haha. It kind of spurred Joa on to talk more shit because that’s the exact dumb response he wants. It’s all tongue in cheek but will ultimately probably end in a smack round the chops at a skatepark but until then I’m here for it :joy:

I do get it. Sometimes it misses the mark and that’s what I said about the Baker review. However, it does often hit closer to home when it’s people we know haha

He’s still made a rod for his own back by taking sponsorship and admitting he shouldn’t.

He also lacks a lot of history knowledge that make some of his jokes and references cringe. Calling out board graphics without knowing what it was a homage to was pretty embarrassing, ect.

Yeah this is so true. There’s a really great Patreon video where him and Ted watch Tim and Henry’s Pack of Lies and it’s so funny seeing how shocked he is at the tricks they were doing in 92

It definitely feels like he has some big blind spots in skate history - a lot of his criticism would be stronger if he had deeper knowledge of stuff before like 2005.

Not expecting him to be Grosso levels of skate nerd but part of me thinks he probably hasn’t watched Mouse. He definitely hasn’t seen Lost & Found

nah, i’d rather kickflip at high speed than any shove-it. When I could i’d have 360 flipped faster than a normal shove-it. flip, flip, flip would be boring, I can imagine SP doing it and making any spot gnarliness redundant.
LS is right, it’s a part highlight and dare I say an overall video highlight.

I think he actually thinks the things he says even though it’s wildly hammed up for the video so we have to accept that he really thinks these things. Most things are just opinions and that’s fine even if we all think they are plain ridiculous.
He does let the lack of fact influence his opinion though which could help him be a little more precise in his cutting jibes. If they are misguided they fall flat.

I thought it was one of the most memorable clips in the vid.

Yeah it was. Just lacked tastefulness as Suciu might say! I guess I’m in the minority on that one though. Just know that you are all deeply, deeply wrong.

It’s kind of a weird move on paper but watch it again and look at his feet. Zero shuffling. Perfect execution. It’s equally creative and gnarly.
I can be pretty hard to please when it comes to trick selection and I’ll say it, most of the stuff I see in contemporary vids is shite in my eyes but that was truly awesome.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Gifted Hater is lurking for lols

I doubt he lurks but he did once post a screen cap from here on one of his live streams

Shuv over Kickflip. Joa’s funny as fuck. But I didn’t like the Casper hate.

Maybe I’m a nationalist.
