I’m really struggling to answer this thread, there’s probably some really obvious ones I’m missing that are dumb but I spent lots of year smoking weed and drinking heavily most times I skated aswell as being a sievehead haha so my mind is mush… but the first time I remember being very much blown away was the Prissick flip demo- standing at the top of the bowl whilst Rune and Lance Mountain skated it. That was some real shit. I was 13 and hadn’t seen anyone of that level in the flesh before. Had a front row seat on the Love replica steps for the handrail stuff too, Shane Cross was wild that day, and Rowley, Boulala and Arto were my favourite skaters at the time.
Was at Sants in Barca 2 weeks ago and Gustav turned up . We sat back and watched a master at work. Just effortlessly killing the ledges and diy spine literally without a bail. His switch tre’s are to die for . A talent on a whole different level
Looking at this thread I really should have gotten out more
So true, man. I think the best I’ve ever seen is Amir Williams at The Level about 15 years ago. Turned up, did a hardflip on the big bank in the corner and then just sat looking cool.
Other than that it’s probably Lee Blackwell at Harrow or Dave Wallace at Burgess Hill or Crawley.
Legitimately @Dent_Face is in my top 5.
#unexpected
I haven’t chipped yet in as everyone has pretty much mentioned all the usual suspects. Penny, Shipman, Curtis, Carroll, BA, Cards, Rune, Chris Miller, Gonz are all on my list.
I can add Huf (first time at Back to the City comp), Wade Speyer (Bay area a few times), Ocean Howell (a completely random sighting skating on Brighton seafront of all places), Dressen ( Wind and Surf trade show 87 and Southbank afterwards), Mike Daher (in SF) and Frank Hirata (at Santa Rosa park), that covers the US skaters and, from over here, Nowik (smashing mini ramps all over the place) and Wayne Kelly (absolute Slades Farm destroyer shutting the place down).
Are you ok? Who hurt you?
Jurwell been hacked?
Not necessarily ‘the best’, but these were unexpedely amazing
Allen Losi at Rom 1990- front smith halfway round the pool first run.
Lee Ralph at Hastings
Div at at War of the Rose Leeds when the pool wall was there.
Andy Scott at Bolton skating the whole park, then heading back to the office for a cup of tea.
Need to write a proper list who I saw in 3 years in Barca. So many people.
Saw the Butcher at Paral-Lel once. Was rad, some rate power
That’s one guy everyone who saw him raves about. Went to Barca years ago and all the locals would point out spots Diego had done…every single one seemed way bigger in person. At the time it was him and Bastien that had blown everyone’s minds over there, and they see a lot of skaters.
That is very kind, dude, especially to be in with such esteemed British skaters! All I remember from our session was flying onto my side trying to crook a ledge.
I’m in his top 5, he is clearly fine. No more questions need to be asked.
Someone is jelly
You’re assuming Im not the magical 5th place after Amir, Blackwell, Perfect blues and @Dent_Face
Hi mate, hope you dont mind me asking, but what happened to Sam? I was a level local 20 odd years ago.
Deacon
No worries @Deacon. From what I understand Sam was diagnosed with melanoma (skin cancer). He had a mole on his head and had an operation to have it removed but unfortunately the cancer had spread and a year later he died. It will be ten years this July since his passing.
I got to skate and hang out with Sam a few times. Rad guy both on and off the board, as they say.
Here’s a short tribute video put together by Alan Glass
I’m so jealous.
I’ve seen 98% of the skaters I wanted to see in the flesh but not him and there’s no one else I’d want to see more.
