I’m won’t say he’s 100% aware – the comment about how living in the flats behind the LCD screens would be a ‘fantastical existence’ as misplaced given how actually, those flats were essentially slums and the people living there were mostly people on the lowest incomes.
And renting a central London studio so you can make toast portraits is an incredibly privileged situation to be in – something a lot of kids probably won’t realise.
Ok fine, maybe ‘well aware’ was too generous. He just didn’t seem as much of the ‘rich kid playing struggling artist’ as I had previously presumed.
