I’m not sure I completely agree with this.
As someone who had to have the cheapest complete in store and then run off of hand me downs for a good few years, I think that perhaps having the ‘cool gear’ or a sick complete would have helped.
He is from Surrey, right? He was able to spend a lot of his time at SB which is a melting pot for the next up and coming pros…and that incurs costs whereas lurking on your local kerb or skating Guilford skatepark everyday doesn’t so much.
I’m not saying that talent didn’t get him there nor am a saying that he shouldn’t have used every opportunity afforded to him - but I do think that if money were not an element which comes into play everyday, then doors are already perhaps a little more open than some others might have.
